$18.95. f The object of Inspector Cherry's attention this outing arrives at Peachum's auction house in London for sale to the highest bidder. The item is a very old family aumbry (sacramental cupboard) complete with secret drawer containing a chalice reputed to be the Holy Grail. The Vatican expresses interest, as does the international con man entrusted with delivery of the aumbry. When the man disappears, Cherry's work intensifies. Authorial intrusions, occasional witty remarks, and interesting characters, but a somewhat prickly style overall. For series fans. REK
