5.0 out of 5 stars The Killing Edge, August 17, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
Years ago while in college, Chloe and her good friends Victoria, Brad and Jared survived a horrible massacre. Years later, Chloe has become a therapist, a model, and a sketch artist for the local police department. One model disappears and then some killings start to happen that are similar to the massacre. A PI is hired to find the missing model and Chloe is drawn romantically to him. The two team up to investigate. This book was a great thriller--I had no idea who the murderer was until the very end. Great action, great characters and just enough romance made this book a great read. I read this book on my Kindle.

An ARC of this book was sent to me by Netgalley.

5.0 out of 5 stars exhilarating paranormal psychological romantic suspense, April 2, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
A decade ago teenager Chloe Marin attended a party that turned ugly. She was fortunate to survive a mass killing of her friends. The police insist all the cult killers were caught.

That deadly incident triggered her to become a psychologist using art therapy to help survivor victims and as a consultant to the police. Her current assignment is to help locate a swimsuit model Colleen Rodriguez whose employer the Bryson Agency insists she went missing in the Keys for some fun in the sun. Her inquiry leads to British private investigator Luke Cane who is undercover as Jack Smith of Mermaid Designs searching for Colleen also. They soon find leads to the same cult leader who engineered the massacre of Chloe's friends ten years ago while the ghost of Colleen visits Chloe pleading for help. More homicides occur as Chloe and Luke are attracted to one another, but ending the cult leader's killing spree supersedes their feelings even as more ghosts visit her.

The Killing Edge is an exhilarating paranormal psychological romantic suspense thriller that grips the audience from the opening Manson-like slaughter and never slows down as Chloe charges head first into the fray while Luke tends to back away until now as he finally has a purpose: keeping Chloe safe. Fast-paced throughout, readers will enjoy this fine tale as the ghosts of past and present urge Chloe on while Luke begs her to reconsider her face first plunges into danger.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't know what the other readers are talking about..., July 11, 2010

This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed reading this book! In fact, I'm going to re-read it again in the near future. I found the plot line very exciting and the ending was unexpected. I couldn't put it down because I couldn't wait to found out what would happen. Don't let the other reviews convince you that this is not a "must read" book if you are a true Heather Graham fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars An average book for Heather Graham's talents, April 14, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
When Chloe Marin was a teenager, she and her friends were victims of brutal killers; some died, some survived. Fast forward ten years and Chloe is now a psychologist with a specialty in art therapy. Police hire her to be a victim advocate. Chloe is currently searching for a model who has gone missing. Some feel she has run off, but Chloe knows she is dead since the model's ghost appeared to her. Luke Cane also suspects foul play. He is a British ex-cop, now a private investigator going undercover as a marketing guru with a swimsuit company looking for models. The two of them are looking for the missing model.

The suspense is ratcheted up when Chloe arrives late to the modeling agency and finds a massacre similar to that she experienced as a teen. She and Luke come to the conclusion that it must be the same killers of the teens so long ago.

I like Heather Graham and frequently reread some of her books. This book won't be on the "keep" or "reread" list. The story started out fast and furious with a tightly written scene focusing on the first mass murder of the teens. The story seemed to slow down with the first scenes set in the present. I found myself skipping or scanning much of the book. The chemistry between Luke and Chloe seemed forced rather than natural.

If you like Heather Graham, you'll most likely enjoy the book due to Graham's talent as a writer, but you'll probably feel as I and others do that this isn't one of her best.

I've read every book she's written, and she never disappoints. This novel is very entertaining; had me guessing until almost the very last pages in this whodunit. A wonderful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy Good, November 18, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
Another 5 star book by Heather Graham. This novel starts with a bang, going through a grisly murder of a group of teens in a family home. The story quickly fastforwards into the future to follow a survivor struggle with what seems to be the return of the original murdered.
Very well written, you feel like you're right there in the scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful romantic suspense novel, March 31, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
I've read several of Heather Graham's contemporary and historical romances but this is the first romantic suspense I've picked up...and I'm glad I did. This is a great romantic suspense novel with twists and turns I didn't see coming. Graham is a veteran writer and her characterizations have depth and the suspense plot is tight and logical. All in all, The Killing Edge is an excellent read.

If you enjoy romantic suspense novels, grab a copy of The Killing Edge or you'll be sorry you missed it. :) ~ Renee, [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars my Third Heather Graham book and this one was very good, June 30, 2011

I first read unhallowed ground and what a disappointment. But, I decided to give Heather Graham another chance. I then read Nightwalker which was very good. As you continue to read about the characters you find that they have a couple of things in common. Then I read this book. It's a nice story, I was surprised at who the killer was. I like this one and nightwalker so far and will continue to read her other books. I like the fact that it's a pretty girl and big sexy guy, you get to read about 4 pages of sex. Ok, in this book I believe it was more than 4 pages. Then you get to the last 100 pages and you want to continue to read and read until you find out what happens. I'm not a fast reader, I read a book a month and only on my commute to work. But, Heather Graham as made my commute a lot more interested.

3.0 out of 5 stars This was just... ok., August 10, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
I like Heather Graham's books, but this one was just... ok. The plot was interesting (which is why I picked it up) but, as another reviewer mentioned, it just seemed to drag on a bit. I did find myself somewhat fast-skimming a few pages to get to a point that was mentioned in the summary. The appearance of Adam Harrison and Nikki and Brent was nice(if somewhat expected for a member of Harrison Investigations to show up), though I noticed that she had been using Nikki and Brent more than a lot of other investigators. (I'd like her to use Darcy and Matt again.)

Like I said before, I do like most of her books (especially the paranormal mystery books) but it is somewhat annoying to me how predictable some things are. Like, the main characters are normally a single female and male who (though they normally hadn't been getting along at first) eventually end up in bed. And the killer is normally someone who the main character has met or has known for a long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reintroduces old friends, July 26, 2010
This review is from: The Killing Edge (Hardcover)
Although not one of her best, Heather Graham's "The Killing Edge" is still a very enjoyable read. The protagonists are both "damaged" people trying to deal with past horrors and afraid of relationships as a result. Yes, you know Chloe and Luke will get together (this IS a Heather Graham book), but the dance they do to avoid their growing attraction is amusing. Chloe is a strong female character, living a fulfilled life in which a man is a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have." It's always enjoyable to reunite with old friends like Adam Harrington and the Blackhawks; such recurring characters make everyone seem more real. I did figure out who the killer was very early on, but I can do that with almost any book, which is why I don't read mystery novels unless they also have a good love story and lots of spooky stuff going on to keep me entertained until my suspicions are proved right.
