3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
For a book about a werewolf, there's not much attention paid to what it's like to BE a werewolf, other than the need to undress and chant the magic words. There are only the briefest encounters between Ross in wolf form and Megan. So why bother having Ross be a werewolf? He could have just been a regular guy.

The trouble is, if he's a regular guy, then there's no...

Ross Marshall is both blessed and cursed by the same thing. Being a werewolf allows him to use his enhanced senses to have a successful PI career. At the same time, this genetic disorder tortures his soul. He feels that love is something that is forbidden to him, for he saw the hell it made of his parents' relationship.

Meeting genetic researcher Megan Sheridan brings a dilema into his world. After Megan saves his life when he is wounded by a serial killer suspect, Ross finds himself falling for the lovely doctor. He does not want to, fearing she will be destroyed either by being caught in the crossfire of his detective work or by his paranormal life.

Nothing can deny the passion that takes root in their hearts from the first moment of their meeting. Not anger, not danger can keep Megan and Ross apart. There is, though, a killer who is determined to try.

***** With the suspense that drew fans to her for years writing the Light Street seris, Ms. York creates a whole new facet to the ever increasinly popular werewolf genre. Ross is not a lapdog, as some wolves turn out to be, nor is this world built on a stronly clannish system of the pack. Urban and unique, this series stands apart. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal Romance at it's Best, December 8, 2003
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
York has been a long-time asset to the Harlequin Intrigue Line, giving good tales for over a decade. But she really shines in a trio of "Moon" tales for Berkley. Killing Moon is sharp, fast paced and very involving, a fresh look at an old genre. Each of of the tree is amazing!

Ross Marshall is a Private Investigator with the instincts of a blood hound, his abilities are beyond the norm. As Ross is tracking a serial killer, and nearly dies for he gets too close. The trail brings him to Megan Sheridan, a scientist into genetic research. She is drawn to the sexy sleuth, with no idea of his "special" talents stem from him being a werewolf - or that werewolves like wolves mate for life (hey didn't she read Susan Kinnard's books? lol). They must fight their inner worries, their fears and stop a serial killer.

With vivid characters York has gone Light Years beyond Light Street and crafted a marvellous paranormal tale that keep the reader spellbound.

5.0 out of 5 stars More twists than a corkscrew, June 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been reading romance and romantic suspense for a long time, and it's gotten very difficult to surprise me. KILLING MOON, however, kept me guessing, zigging every time I thought it would zag. This is the kind of book that makes you talk to the characters out loud: "No! Oh, don't do that!" Not because they're doing something dumb, but because you know the guy with the knife is just around the corner.

Then, of course, there's the romance. Ross and Megan are great characters who struggle for the happy ending they eventually find. I closed it with a happy sigh -- the very best kind.

The werewolf aspect of the story is well-handled. York makes it the heart of her strong, logical romantic conflict.

In all, I'm looking forward to the other books in this series.

This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)

There are only the briefest encounters between Ross in wolf form and Megan. So why bother having Ross be a werewolf? He could have just been a regular guy.

The trouble is, if he's a regular guy, then there's no magical attraction to make Ross and Megan come together. And aside from that magical attraction there's not much development of a relationship. Instead there was a lot of time spent detailing Ross's past and why he's so determined to avoid getting romantically involved.

I finished it, but won't be reading more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Werewolf Romance with Lots of Suspense, April 1, 2005
By
Dakota "daxydakota" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rebecca York's paranormal romance, KILLING MOON, has a good cast of characters and a fresh take on the werewolf story. The gist of the story is that private investigator Ross Marshall has special werewolf talents that help him track down missing people and killers, but now he's run into a killer who's intent on hunting him; in the meantime, Ross can't allow himself to fall in love with Megan, because his werewolf powers are just as tragic as they are superhuman. I liked both Ross and Megan - each had interesting backgrounds and strong roles in the story. The secondary characters, including a cop and the serial killer, were also flushed out and realistic. The plot was fast-paced, suspenseful, and easy to follow, and it only took me an afternoon to finish it. It wasn't a perfect book - each major character had the same abusive parent issue, and a subplot revolving around bad things happening at Megan's work was an obvious device used only to show off Ross' werewolf side. Still, it was a good read, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series (this was book #1). Book #2 is EDGE OF THE MOON.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Were Novel, March 10, 2004

This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been reading and collecting vampire/lycanthorpe novels for years, and I really enjoyed this story. It's pretty much a romance novel. Ross Marshall is a private investigator and a werewolf. While working on one of his investigations, he is badly hurt. He makes it home, but passes out. Megan Sheridan is a researcher that Ross has hired to run some genetic tests. She has no idea that these genetic tests concern the fact that Ross is a were. Megan makes a quick trip to Ross' home and discovers him unconscious on his floor. She helps him to recover and during this time feels a growing attraction to him. Ross, while also attracted to Megan is afraid to get close to her due to problems in the werewolf gene. At the same time the case Ross is investigating is becoming more dangerous and getting too close to Megan. I really enjoyed this story and the characters and I would highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars great lead characters, March 16, 2006

This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Witching Moon first (which comes after this one) without realizing there was any order to these books, but it did not harm the flow of story at all. Apparently, all books can stand on their own. The only reason I even realized they were together was the reference to the leading man's father (The Big Bad Wolf)was familiar.

What I liked about this book was the sexy hero. It seems all the Marshall brothers, Ross included, are very masculine, and yet very sensitive, at the same time. I also liked the fact that it was difficult for him and the herione (Megan) to get past the wolf and the wolf's killing of a person, regardless of how evil that person was. No killing should be easy if you are truly a good person and the romance authors that try to pull that off are left with a flat, unrealistic piece of fiction. Megan was scared of the wolf and that seemed more normal and true to life. She had to work through that fear toward her love for him.

Other than the romance in the book, there is definitely a plot. Ross is a detective and is gathering evidence against a serial killer, only the serial killer turns the tables on him and comes hunting after Ross instead.

Very well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first, but not my last York novel., August 11, 2003
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Killing Moon is a great read by author Rebecca York (AKA Ruth Glick). I found it quite by accident and I have already gone out and purchased Edge of the Moon and now am eagerly awaiting The Witching Moon.

Synop: Dr. Megan Sheridan has lost the toss and must go and get a genetic sample from would-be-patient Ross Marshall. Ross needs to find out if having children is possible for him or if he should just stay a loner. Megan finds Ross delirious, shot and naked. She can't help but be attracted to Ross. When Ross wakes up and finds Megan with him, he knows that he has found his 'mate' but the man who shot Ross will take their relationship and use it to his advantage. Ross must come to terms with his own inner 'demon' in order to save Megan and find a life of love and happiness.

Critique: I have read many stories about vampires, but haven't really delved into the world of werewolves. York does a great job of bringing the reader into Ross's world where he doesn't quite embrace his wolf side. The reader can't help but fall a bit in love with Ross, with his tortured, recluse act. Megan doesn't seem to be as well defined as Ross, but you root for her as well. The story was a fast read and made me want to read the next installment in the trilogy. I def. recommend this book if you like the paranormal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killing Moon by Rebecca York, July 2, 2003
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just finished
reading "Killing Moon". Figured that it couldn't be
half bad from an author who wrote the "43 Light
Street" series (My extra special favorite series).
Well this surpassed that series triple time. The set
of Moon books will always have a place of honor on my
shelf. This was a very exciting, fast moving
and memorable book. The feelings and thoughts of the characters comes right out at you and you understand how hard it is for them to make the right decisions. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first book in the Moon series, April 17, 2011
This review is from: Killing Moon (The Moon Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
First in a series, KILLING MOON is my introduction to Rebecca York, who I can say is my new favorite author. The hero of this story, Ross Marshall, is a private investigator. What makes him so good at his job is he inherited an ancient curse that transforms him into a wolf. This isn't a full moon werewolf tale. He doesn't turn mad and kill everyone. While in wolf form, he's able to track people as well as find clue a normal human can't.

Ross has tried to understand what's happened to him by researching and through university courses. All the males in his family have either died of this curse or carried it to their offspring. No females have survived. Watching what this has done to his mother keeps Ross from female company in fear he'll bond with someone, but it hasn't stopped him from trying to change things. He's contacted a lab in order to have genetic testing done. In the meantime, he's on the trail of a serial killer. While in wolf form, he's shot.

Out of his mind with an infected bullet wound, Dr. Megan Sheridan from Bio Gen Labs arrives at his home. Although she's not a medical doctor, she treats him and you can guess, the attraction begins. He tries to keep her away for reasons explained above, but is drawn to her by a force he's never experienced. Megan feels it too, but danger is around the corner and not from the wolf. The killer who shot him is closing in and has targeted Megan as his next victim.

Paranormal romances are my favorite sub-genre, at least for the time being. Thing is, this was listed as a romantic suspense. It wasn't until a few pages in that I realized the paranormal angle. The story has plenty of action/suspense without being too heavy on the sex scenes, but enough it's still a romance through and through.

Here are the books in this series:

1. Killing Moon
2. Edge of the Moon
3. Witching Moon
4. Burning Moon (in the Cravings anthology- Jul 2004)
5. Crimson Moon
6. Shadow of the Moon
7. New Moon
8. Huntress Moon
9. Ghost Moon
10. Eternal Moon
11. Dragon Moon

If paranormal romance books are of interest, I highly suggest reading this one. I enjoyed it so much I plan to continue with the series.
