This review is from: Killing Me Softly With His Song (Remastered Version) (MP3 Download)
"Killing Me Softly with His Song" was composed by Charles Fox and Norman Gilmbel, based on a poem written by Lori Lieberman, after she attended a concert by Don McLean, in which he sang his work "Empty Chairs". The poem was titled "Killing Me softly with His Blues". The song, "Killing Me Softly with His Song", was made famous by the 1973 recording of the American singer-songwriter, Roberta Flack, which won three Grammy Awards and was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 4 weeks. The song tells of the way music touches the soul of the listener; I was moved.

Roberta Flack was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina in 1937. She did so well at classical piano in her early teens that she was awarded a full music scholarship at Howard University. In 1971, she got her first break in her musical career when American actor-director, Clint Eastwood, chose one of her songs for his movie, "Play Misty for Me". The song was "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from her album, "First Take". The album became a best seller and eventually sold 1.9 million copies in the U.S. She went on to score hits such as "Where is the Love" in 1972, "Killing Me Softly with His Song" in 1973 and "The closer I Get to you" in 1978. In 1999, a star bearing her name was placed on the Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
