Book Description

April 2002
John Degen's first collection of poetry, Animal Life in Bucharest, received high critical praise from some of the finest poets writing in Canada today. Degen's second collection, Killing Things, brings a precise eye to Toronto and its surrounding landscape to observe the deadly fineness of everyday life. Moving between, and confusing, elements of the city and of suburban and wilderness living, the collection is fuelled by a tone of existential uncertainty and a persistent questioning of realities.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book's Real Name is "Killing Things", July 14, 2002
This review is from: Killing Things (Paperback)
Killing Things is a collection of rich lyric poetry from the heart of Canada's complex urban milieu. Degen's poems walk the night streets of Toronto, witnessing pain and comedy, danger and beauty. Degen's voice is unique among a crop of fresh young Canadian poetic talent. Romantic and intelligent, caustic and restrained, these poems are simple, slender towers of language housing the deadly fineness of everyday life.

Highly recommended.
