Biography

Bayside lead singer/rhythm guitarist and founding member Anthony Raneri has been waiting 10 years—since he formed the rock group in Queens, N.Y. in the winter of 2000—to make an album like Killing Time, which represents a number of firsts for the band named after his hometown.

The album is the band’s debut for new label Wind-up Records after four releases on ... Read more in Amazon's Bayside Store

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 for 5! February 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD
This is Bayside's fifth release and is their fifth great album. They continue to amaze me with how they keep putting out solid rock albums year after year. It is extremely rare for a band to have 5 albums with none of them being a subpar effort. All bands are bound put out a less then stellar album at some point in their careers but so far Bayside has avoided that.

If you haven't heard of Bayside before, they are a bit hard to explain. They have a style all their own but fall into the punk rock category....but don't worry its no cheesy high school pop punk band. They rock hard and deliver a punch. The first 3 songs off of "Killing Time" will show you this and tell you all of what Bayside is about.

If you are already a fan of Bayside, this album will not disappoint you. It fits right in nicely with the rest of the Bayside catalog. Many bands feel the need to change their sound in order to do the so called "evolving." That idea is garbage and Bayside do on this album what have done on the previous 4, by blasting your stereo with fast hard rocking anthems...and a couple of slower ones. The thing that makes Bayside so unique is that, although they don't drastically change their sound from one album to the next, there are subtle differences and the songs and style never gets old at all. They could put out another 5 albums and still not get boring. If I had to compare this album to some of their past works, "Killing Time" resembles a mix of "Shudder" and "The Walking Wounded." The one thing I seem to notice on this album is the increase in the amount of gang vocals used. A bunch of the songs have some gang vocal action, something Bayside has done before but it seems to be more apparent here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killing Time March 7, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I've been a long time listener to Bayside and I can honestly say that this is my most favorite album made by them. Each time they have released an album the sound has always been specific to that certain album. When I hear "Walking Wounded" I think of a completely different sound if I were to hear "Shutter". With "Killing Time" I think they capture what both of these albums were aiming to achieve in just one album. It has the pop appeal that I felt with "Shutter" but, it also has that dark, sad sound that was "Walking Wounded". I can't get enough of "It's Not a Bad Little War" and "Sinking and Swimming on Long Island" however, songs such as "Mona Lisa" and "Sick, Sick, Sick" are nothing to be looked over. Although, there was one song I didn't think really belonged on the album. I understand what they were trying to do with "On Love, On Life" but, it just did not belong on "Killing Time"; I can't even listen to it. I suppose that maybe it's some joke I'm not getting because it seems completely unlikely that Raneri (Lyricists of Bayside) would compose a song like that. Other than that, the album is truly a corner stone for the band and for ten dollars and some change on Amazon you really cannot go wrong. If you're looking for brilliant harmony, fantastic lyrics and unique composing then you should pick up "Killing Time". Even if you're not familiar to Bayside this will get you going to their shows and singing all their lyrics while you're driving in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album is Brilliant April 7, 2011
By C. Wade
Format:Audio CD
I've been a Bayside fan for a long time. I've listened to all of their albums and enjoy them all. I don't want to say this is their best album because they all have something very special to offer but this one stands out as very musically mature. The lyrics are smart and substantial and the music is classic Bayside. You get crunchy guitar riffs with the occasional squeal, punchy, driven percussion and emotional vocals. The lyrics pull you in and the music keeps you there with just enough hook to make you hit repeat over and over. I highly recommend this album to any Bayside fan as well as anyone new to this group. You will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars It grows, and grows, give it a chance March 31, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'll be honest, it didn't do it for me on the 1st spin.

I havent listened to Bayside in quite some time, I do however revisit their acoustic album from time to time, but it's been a while since I've really listened to them. I first heard them back somewhere in 2004-2005, being drawn in by the lead singers voice, it was a refreshing change of pace from the screaming stuff going on at the time. I said, "Okay this guy is actually singing, and it sounds good and earnest." I listened to them pretty frequently for about a year, then my interests went elsewhere.

So, coming across this new release, and being in the mood for something new and different I pick up "Killing Time."

First impression was, oh yea, I can't really relate to these lyrics anymore, and it's not as catchy as I remembered. Kind of gave up. Gave it another spin, and the song "It's Not A Bad Little War" caught my attention. I though, Hmmm, this reminds me of why I liked them, very nice little tune with a killer guitar solo. I forgot about the licks that second guitar player has.

Then proceed to give the rest of the album a second shot, and then I started liking it, and playing it multiple times, and again enjoying it. I must have been expecting something on the 1st listen, and when it didnt meet that expectation I gave up, it happens, especially if you havent listened to a certain band in a while, your trying to hard to feel the way you did when you first heard it.

I guess my point is, it's a great album for Bayside, and while I don't really listen to this type of music anymore, it did strike a chord with me. I don't relate to the lyrics like i did when i was in my early twenties, but the quality of music is all here.
