Product Description

Platform: Sony PSP

In Killzone: Liberation, as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance, one soldier is sent on an impossible mission. Two months after the events of Killzone, most of southern Vekta is still under Helghast control. The rules of war have been cast aside with the Helghast General, Metrac, employing brutal measures in order to seize the initiative and strengthen his position further. Returning as Templar, players will be sent on a mission to undertake a covert operation to save hostages captured by Metrac, while ISA troops continue the fight for liberty.

Sadly the single player of Killzone Liberation receives a lot of complaints. Apparently Guerrilla has gone w/ the old school approach of making you die a lot before you can complete a level.

Thankfully they have added checkpoints, but unfortunately those checkpoints disappear when you exit the game, you can only save after you complete a level, and with some levels requiring multiple attempts and 20 minutes+ of trial and error this really kills any hope of the portable single player mode being balanced towards 5 minute playbursts.

Luckily they have spent a lot of work on a full blown 8 player multiplayer online mode that more than makes up for it. The balance of PvP really destroys the pseudo balance of the single player. Online everyone has the same chance. Strategy, timing and skill are what distance one player from the next.

There are maps and modes to customize, basically if you have 10 minutes to spare and are near wireless, going online w/ killzone is something you will not forget.

They have even added contant packs for free! Something that most shooters now charge for.

It really is 2 different games as enjoyable as the single player is, it can get very annoying doing the exact same thing over and over in the hopes that some cheap grenade or spider won't force a restart.

Online all cheapness is gone as you can get the jump on someone, change weapons, heal team mates the works.

This is a can't miss game for those with wireless. For those without it, you are missing out on the PSP's 2nd best feature. (number one is obviously the gorgeous screen.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Overall, I found this game a lot of fun and a medium level of challenge. I will say up front that this game is not for younger gamers as the violence and language of the game is a bit extreme. Overall, the game was about what I expected from a third-person shooter. Here is the breakdown:

Good:

-Unique third person view: I found this really enhances the gameplay and gives you a better perspective of the battlefield.

-Graphics: Some of the best I have seen on the PSP.

-Gameplay: Not just a button-mashing shooter game. You must apply some strategy and thought to your tactics in order to win. Additionally, you must make battlefield decisions quickly since the enemy won't stop shooting at you just because you are thinking.

Bad:

-Controls: At some points it can be difficult to aim your weapon or line your character up to perform a task.

-Story: Being new to the Killzone series, I wished there was more explaination of the background of the game. It makes the game more engaging when you know where all the characters are coming from.

-Gameplay: While your soldier is ducking, he can't move. This can be frustrating when you are pinned down by the enemy. I hope for future versions they fix this as it forces you to break cover if you are trying to find a better firing position.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a Tad Disappointed December 31, 2006

The aiming controls could have been a lot better for this game and another thing, Why isnt this game in First-person like the original killzone?

If it was in first person, i would be a whole lot happier. Im only on level 4 on easy mode and i cant beat this part because the are helghan commandos and as tank shooting at me at the same time!

Maybe im not trying hard enough but the game could be a lot better!

There arent even Bots in multiplayer! I was awfully disappointed

But the parts that are actually beatable are pretty cool. It could have been a lot better! 3 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite game on the PSP January 15, 2007

This game has it all. Fantastic graphics: awesome character models and animations, environments are lush and full of life, or appropriately metallic. Great sound: every explosion resonates, the gunfire is intense and the voices of the Helghasts are very well done, great voice acting during the cutscenes. Great gameplay: the controls are different at first but once gotten used to (the first mission is a great tutorial that helps you) the controls become natural for such a third person shooter. There is lots of strategy involved and the gunfights can get intense. Great moments: great boss battles, but I won't spoil them. You just have to buy it!

This game is very different from the other shooters that are out there. As the description says, it is a "third person" perspective, so your character is basically in the middle of the screen and you are looking down on him. You are navigating your way through an alien-industrial warzone, fighting alien soldiers, avoiding mines (some that can chase you) and trying to rescue your allies. Your character is bascially out in the open, so you can get attacked from both sides at once.

The first level or two were very easy, then it started getting hard. I found it pretty frustrating until I learned to shoot then dodge, shoot then dodge. It takes some getting used to, but it is pretty cool once you get into it. It is good to play some of the challenge levels so that you can earn upgrades for your character (ability to carry more grenades, body armor, etc.).

Overall, a very good game. If you like shooters, you'll probably like this one.

The good:

- Good story

- There are checkpoints, so you don't have to start levels over at the beginning

- You can find weapons and health throughout the levels, which help you to keep moving

- You can improve your character by playing the challenge levels

- Variety of modes - sometimes you walk alone, sometimes you have a buddy who you can issue orders to, sometimes you ride a tank or boat

The bad:

- Things on the screen are very small.

- It can get difficult pretty quickly. You may find yourself playing forward from a checkpoint quite a few times before you figure it out.
