This is a fantastic book, even if you are NOT going to build a kiln. This book is packed with cool stuff and good pictures. When I built my kiln (a 4.5 foot gas raku) this was the only book I used. All the other kiln books I have ever seen (a lot I sadly assure you) are complete garbage. This one on the other hand is a gem. Well worth every cent of the cost and very well written, this book is in my top 3 for ceramics books. It is an great book for begginers and ultra experienced potters alike. My one and only problem is that they barely even mention doors. Doors are not terribly important, compared to the other info, but this is a MAJOR fault with this book. I don't know if it will be revised, but that is one thing that is very bad.

the good= comprehensive, well written, cool pictures, good reading, covers all aspects, good resources, all around excellent book.

the bad= NO INFO ABOUT DOORS!!!! god I hate that...

the ugly= more color would be nice but... cheaper=better.

So, in spite of this books one glaring failure there is no better book for everything else covered. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone who is even interested in firing kilns. Great book, good buy, get it!

This book is the best reference for pottery kiln builders and operators. I have built and operated Olsen's Fast Fire Wood Downdraft kiln form the book and converted it to gas with excellent results.

If you are thinking about building, firing or repairing a kiln, this is the book. With a fair amount of firing experience, but little knowledge of building, this book gave me the info and guidance to help build my own wood kiln. Get this book.

Between this book and Kiln Construction by Joe Finch you can build a very succesful pottery kiln. The information within is nothing less than outstanding in understanding the various kiln options being used around the world. This is a must have book for those with an interest in kilns or in building their own pottery kiln.

I love this book! It makes you think about how to make a kiln that is just right for you and your tastes. I can't wait to start building my kiln.

I doubt there is a better resource for learning about kilns, aside from buiding one yourself. The book is very comprhensive and leaves nothing out. If you want to know everything about the construction of kilns, this book is a must read. Fredrick Olsen is one guy who knows what he is talking about.

I had a problem building my gas kiln. I didnt understand how it works. This book helped me understand the mechanisms of it. Excelent purchase!

This book was recomended by a college instructor who worked directly with author. I highly recomend this book if you want to build your own kiln.

We purchased this book as a reference for building a small wood kiln. It has many tabulations we needed. We had read the older edition. This edition is fabulous.

This book is beautifully written and very informative. It gives detailed instructions about building several different kilns. It is a good buy.
