Book Description

October 1, 2009
This is the new novel from the well-loved Scottish storyteller. Kilt maker Kirsty Muir finds life hard in sixties Edinburgh where money is tight and excitement hard to find. When a charming Scottish fiddler, Jake Maclver comes into her life and introduces her to a glamorous new world, it seems she has finally found her way out. However, when one day he disappears off on tour, Kirsty is left broken hearted. Her heart is mended by Andrew Macrae, owner of the kilt shop and it seems as though Kirsty will find happiness after all. That is until the day when she finds Jake waiting outside her door, full of apologies and claims of love. Kirsty must now make a decision: follow her first love or settle for the dependability of Andrew. Or is there another way?

Editorial Reviews

Review

It's 1964, and 20-year-old Kirsty Muir is a kilt maker in a well-established kilt shop in Edinburgh. Nothing very exciting happens in her life, until Jake MacIver wanders into the shop. Handsome and debonair, Jake is a traditional Scottish fiddler with his own show on the telly, and the two cannot fight their attraction to each other. Everybody disapproves of the budding romance between Kirsty and Jake, but Kirsty doesn't care what they say. After a whirlwind romance, he suddenly announces his group is going to tour America, and she can't come. Heartbroken, Kirsty throws herself into her work and finds comfort in her boss, Andrew Macrae. It's only when Jake contritely appears on her doorstep that she wonders if it was really Jake she was in love with all along. Kirsty has to make a decision about who she really wants and what her heart needs. Douglas presents a sweet romance about capturing what your heart truly desires. --Booklist, 15th September 2009
