The problem is always finding suitable cloths to apply the product. Any sort of commercial paper towel makes a mess. And most shop rags are just as bad. Most woodworking stores sell finishing rags, usually scraps of cotton fabric from some clothing manufacturer. These are usually washed to remove loose dirt and lint, but they can still be a grab bag with regards to quality.
I tried the Kimtech wipes, and was mostly pleased. For starters, they just don't leave any lint. Nada...at least none that my eyes could detect. That in itself was a victory.
The problem is that I had to learn a new touch. Cotton rags are relatively forgiving as far as technique. You can press about as hard or soft as you want, and don't have to be super careful with the wiping direction or technique. The Kimwipes require a little more practice to get right. Press too hard and you will get streaks, press too softly and you will get skips and holidays. They also have more of a tendency to leave pattern marks when you wipe, especially if you have to go against the grain.
But after using them for a while, I figured it out, and now the end result is every bit as good as with the cotton woodworking rags, but without the occasional lint. The cost is about a wash-these might be a little cheaper. It would probably depend on how you use them, and how large the individual finishing jobs are. I do cabinetry, so the finishing area at any one time is relatively small, and a single wipe never wore out.
What makes these so remarkable is the complete absence of lint of any kind. I haven't been able to detect any particulate matter whatsoever. Contrast this with bathroom tissue, which leaves tiny but numerous little specks behind when you use them.
These are not cheap for household users, but a package used strategically could last a very long time and help in cleaning surfaces that might otherwise represent a challenge in cleaning. I highly recommend this in cleaning those more difficult smudges you see on TVs, marble surfaces, glass, computer screens, and the like.
These are rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, glues, bases and acids... plus they leave no lint behind. They are great in the kitchen to clean the greasy glass surface of my stove, a grimy kitchen sink, and my stainless steal refrigerator. Out in the garage, clean up that old chain saw, your wheel covers and the windows... better in reverse order.
Wash them out and start all over again. In 2013, the global market for polypropylene was about 55 million metric tons... put all that crap to good use... again. Believe me, plastic is better the second time around.
These are not very absorbent; they work well for cleaning a surface, but don't expect them to soak in a bunch of liquid for you. And they are permeable so you still need to wear gloves, but for a tough wipe that won't leave residue, these are a great choice.
