1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this one, buy the new re-mastered version!!
Don't get me wrong, I am obsessed with Kin. One of my all time best albums.
But I just purchased it and then realized that there is a new (2010) re-mastered version that is better recorded.

I bought this cd based upon the reviews previously written, and also my approval of other releases from Waveform Records. This work by Kin proved to be another winner. The sound is "ambient," but also rhythmic, and it's musically complex enough to offer fresh sources of enjoyment even after repeated listenings.

The musical styles are varied enough to avoid becoming monotonous. "Pearl," with its female narrative voiceover during the first three minutes, reminded me of "Little Fluffy Clouds," The Orb's best-known track. "Triangle," perhaps my favorite track, is a ten-minute excursion into a trance-like vibe. Some other tracks have a heavy bass line contributing to a "dub-like" sound, similar to that characterizing another Waveform release, "Earthjuice."

Overall, this has quickly become one of my favorite cd's. I now wish I could find other ambient-techno works that are similarly inventive and interesting.

Yeah, this album is so so awesome. It's kind of acid jazzy, ambient, and chill. It's easy to listen to as background but just as easy to focus on without becoming bored. Very well produced.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Group, The Sound, The Music, November 15, 2003
This review is from: Kin (Audio CD)
I must say in loving Ambient/Newage music and beautiful melody laced with synthetic sounds, I must say this group has it all. Every Album that Ive heard from 'SOUNDS FROM THE GROUND'. Are worth buying. Most Groups have one or two songs that are pleasing to the ear. I have found that this group, has most all of its cuts on all of there Albums, very tasteful and beautiful. This particular Album Kin, is one of there best Albums/CD's along with all the rest. Listen to "Over There" and you would agree, the sample doesn't do it justice. Its very beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kin is a real gem, September 29, 2003

'Kin' is one of my favourite albums, beautifully put together, it brings togther many different styles and moods. When first released in the mid 90's this collection stood above anything else released around that time, the fact people still review it is proof that 'Kin' stands the test of time, unlike alot of bland electronica out there. 'Kin' is a real gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars "So What Am I Expected To Do.... Cook?" -- "That's Right", September 13, 2002

These words (and the only words I can understand) from the track "Treasure" have become a permanent part of our house dialog. This one track makes the price of the whole album. Fat, complex, cool, chilling, deep, heavy, mysterious, funky, rich and enveloping music pour from my speakers when I put this on. (And I put it on LOUD.) As another reviewer said - "It's a good thing CDs don't wear out, because I'd have to buy a new one each month." My one disappointment - I can't find anything like this music! I bother the DJ at my free-form dance studio with this every time I go. BUY THIS ALBUM.

Imagine Sounds from the Ground being released 20 yrs earlier... You would have to buy a new copy almost every month! This CD is one that I keep playing over and over, without getting bored. It is relaxing, yet upbeat. Especially in the car, driving through the countryside, it gives you a complete new perspective. Definitely one of my top 5 CD's

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethereal...A massage for the mind..., January 9, 1999

I believe my wife and I were in different rooms of the house listening to "Echoes" on PRI when the fifth track (triangle) came over the air waves. I liked it instantly and when it ended my wife and I said, simultaneously, "that was amazing". So the search was on to find this CD. I bought from Amazon, and have been listening since its arrival, and all I can say is wow! This is great stuff! You will be taken on a journey that will center your mind and generally make you feel good. Not bad for 13 bucks, eh? Now that you have read this, do the right thing, click on "add to shopping cart" and massage your brain. You won't be disappointed.

This UK duo made a statement with this CD. Utterly amazing! The track Triangle is alone worth the price of admission. I'll never forget the day I heard it on my speakers coming from KUSF radio in San Francisco. WOW! A totally smooth piece of work from start to finish. Buy This!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Chill Out, November 22, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I've recently been getting very much into the downtempo chill side of electronic music. Don't get me wrong I still love my Tangerine Dream and my Klaus Schulze, but when I need something that isn't so cosmic, I turn to this record. Most of the tracks on this album have great smooth beats with layers and layers of lush electronica over top. Providing the listener with a sense of forward movement that is never ever rushed. The only thing ever harsh is the opening tracks inital "electro-buzz" which quickly fades into cosmic pulses of sonic chillout. I'm very happy with this purchase. Check it out for yourself.
