This is a 2000mAh high capacity replacement battery. The higher the mAh rating, the more power a battery can store and the longer it will last per charge. It contains premium Japanese grade A battery cells and is guaranteed to outperform the Canon original battery. It is CE certified and built to meet or exceed the OEM specification. It is guaranteed to safely power all cameras and camcorders that use the BP-511, BP-511A, or BP-512 batteries. The lithium ion chemistry of this battery makes it 100% memory free. Unlike Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries, lithium ion batteries don't have a "memory effect" which shortens their capacity. They can be partially charged and/or discharged without worry of shortened battery life. Seriously, who writes a review of a battery? After all, it's just a battery. Not necessarily so. The Canon battery costs more and has less storage capacity. When purchasing batteries, be sure to look at the storage capacity of the batteries in question. The storage capacity of batteries this size is expressed in mAh (milli ampere hours). The higher the mAh number, the more energy the battery stores. This battery has almost 44% more storage capacity than the Canon battery. Want to compare more batteries? Try this - divide the cost of the battery by the number of mAh. For this battery, $24.67 divided by 2000 (mAh) equals $.0123 per mAh. For the Canon battery, $37.59 divided by 1390 (mAh) equals $.027 per mAh. By the way, I use this battery in my Canon EOS-40D.

Update: I have now used 2 of these batteries for well more than a year. They are still doing an excellent job!

When you first get any new rechargable batteries, fully charge them before use. Run the batteries out 100% before charging again. Repeat this cycle 3 or 4 times in a row and your batteries won't develop a "memory" and will last longer.

I felt the original battery was pretty good in my 40D. I could take about 900 pictures with it. This replacement battery goes forever. Since I am still in learn mode, I tend to take multiple shots at various settings. The battery lasted a week, with 10% flash, constant picture review, constantly being left on....

Just get one. Besides, you should have a spare on hand anyways.

I bought two of these since they were rated at 2000mAh and the genuine Canon batteries were only rated at 1390mAh. Big mistake. My Canon batteries run a slideshow on my camera for almost 6 hours. That means these batteries ought to go for more than 8 hrs. Instead they last less than 4 hrs. Same test. And my Canon batteries are 5 years old. If my Canon batteries are still 1390mAh, then these ought to be rated at 925 mAh, definitely not 2000mAh.
