I had an old laptop that suddenly died on me. Thankfully the hard drive was still intact so I thought to myself if there was a way to restore data from it and transfer it somehow. Well I came across this little nifty item^^ After doing some looking in various well known stores, this was certainly the cheapest and it wasn't all fluff either.

I do admit though that it took me a while to figure out which connection went with where on my desktop motherboard lol. Since I never did anything like this, I finally figured it out and it was rewarding^^ I do recommend this if you really just want the device itself to do the job. I never did understand those hard drive enclosure kits.

Another thing you should beware though is that the pins are prone to bend quite well after repeated use of inserting and removing the pins from the hard drive. Just be careful how you remove it. Don't pull it out so hard and don't pull it out to the side either. That will definitely cause it to bend^^;

Turns out more than this product offers! About the best thing I can say is under ideal conditions it's able to do what it claims to do. The real problem is with the power adapter and jumper settings. First I've found that this thing only works as advertised in some jumper settings. That's a limitation on its usefulness.

The bigger problem is clearance for the power connector. Often times I don't have room for it in a huge mix of adapters or a tight fit. Also, the supplied power dongle is pure junk. The pins fell out of the plastic housing after one use.

None of these are real deal breakers. I've pulled all the plastic off the power dongle and bent the contacts to get it to fit in tight spaces. When it works, it works, when it doesn't work I find something else. (ps - I don't recommend doing this, you'll need to be very careful)

I'd be more unhappy if it hadn't been so darn inexpensive.

The Kinamax ADP-IDE23 Laptop 2.5-Inch to Desktop 3.5-Inch IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter does exactly what it was advertised to do; which is enable me to use my notebook hard drive in my desktop. I would definitely recommend this product to other PC users. two thumbs up.

I am an IT professional, and data recovery is one of the services I offer. I bought this adapter for my external drive carrier and I used it right away to recover some important data for a client. It worked perfectly and the price was right. I highly recommend it.

This product performed well considering what it is made to do and its price. No moving parts; all pins and cables were solid and functional. It does what it is supposed to do well.

It does what it is supposed to do and is fairly simple to use. The only (albeit slight) complaint I have is that the pins bend fairly easily. Other than that, it's like an unstylish car - it might not be a pretty accessory and it may have a quirk or two somewhere (which I haven't discovered yet), but for the most part it's uncomplicated and reliable.

With this simple and inexpensive adapter I installed the HDD from my deceased IBM NoteBook in my desktop PC in minutes.

One tip: the NB drive needs to be configured as a slave by jumpering a couple of pins - a label on the drive shows which ones (not sure if this is the same for all NB drives but I suspect so). There was no jumper included with the adapter, but when I opened up my desktop PC there was a suitable jumper on the socket of main HDD. Transferred this jumper to the designated pins on the NB drive and the system booted faultlessly.

With this cable we can take advantage to backup data from a laptop hard drive, or connect the laptop 2.5 " into a workstation.

The adaptor performed as advertised, however the printed label on the drive suggesting jumper settings was incorrect. The "slave" setting fried the drive, I lost everything. Checking with the drive mfr I found the setting was not allowed, go figure. It is imperative that you check with the drive mfr before setting any jumpers, do NOT rely upon the label.
I would recommend this product to anyone, however I would caution that they check current settings for the drive.

I've used this type before. They are not for everyone. You need to be a little careful with them but I prefer the design and simplicity. Plus the price is always right.
