This is the real #1 cooling fan,
This review is from: Kinamax FAN-NTP3 Business Notebook Cooler Pad with Three Built-in 60 mm Fans for Laptops (Personal Computers)
I purchased this item and the "#1 rated cooling fan" according to amazon's compilation of reviews.....the DataStor UNBCPX 3-Fan Notebook Cooling Pad.
This one literally blows it away. I have temperature sensors inside my laptop and a program to read them. My hard drive runs at about 100 degrees F, 38 degrees C. I also own the Belkin 1 fan model. The Kinmax is a PUSH fan as to cool the CPU with cooler room temperature air as is the Belkin. They both cool my HD down 10 degrees to 90 in about 10 minutes. The DataStor UNBCPX 3-Fan Notebook Cooling Pad, which is a pull fan as to suck the hot air away from the bottom of the computer, and that I ran for an hour and my cpu HD acuually gained a degree. The Kinmax and Belkin both come with with a back lift apparatus that makes it more ergonomically comfortable, the DataStor UNBCPX 3-Fan Notebook Cooling Pad does not and the laptop lays flat. The Kinmax is by far the best in acheiving lower tempatures while holding your laptop in a good position whether it be on a desk or lap. The hollow underneath is its ownly drawback as the fans are exposed. The Belkin is even more ergonomically pleasant and it has a storage bin for the wire, it looks nicer and sturdier, but only has one fan directly in the middle, so hence one third the power. The DataStor UNBCPX 3-Fan Notebook Cooling Pad is flat, does not hold your laptop very well and doesnt not effectively funnell enough heat away from your computer to be worth running it. I have two HOT SPOTS. One is the top left where the power supply is, and the other is in the bottom left/middle, so the three fan configuration was a must. It may not look the prettiest but the KINMAX is by far the champ.

I bought this less than 3 weeks ago and it has stopped working properly. The wires under the bottom of the unit are exposed and do not take a lot of wear and tear. Now I have to move around the wires constantly just to get the fans working. It's not very suitable for laps either.

This is made from lightweight plastic. There is a little lip in the front, so if your laptop has controls on the front, this cooler will interfere with them. Also, if your laptop only has USB slots in the front, the cooler's short USB cable may not reach them. Widescreen laptops will hang over the sides and make the unit a little unstable. The fans are quiet though.

I have a T23 Thinkpad. It works great! The only problem was that it got warm after an hour's use. I thought I would try this fan to see if it would work. Because of the low price I thought there was a catch. Because it plugs into a usb port I didn't expect it to be very efficient. I also thought it would be loud. I was wrong. This keeps my thinkpad from getting warm and it is surprisingly quiet. The only drawback is that it is curved and opened on the bottom so it does not sit on your lap comfortably. But if you get a little lapdesk there is no problem.

Works fine for now. I had the exact model before, but one of the fans died, than another. I've had several of these kinds of cool pads. For under $20.00 you extend the performance and the life of a notebook computer by years. Using temp monitors you can see big differences when it is used. Add manual control to the internal fans and you keep clock performance up with temps in a much lower range. This is a must have for anyone with a notebook computer.
Get a cookie sheet to put under it unless you like shredded lap, or enjoy that sort of thing. The bottom is not comfortable to place on your lap. On a table it will suck up paper into the fans or anything light.

I purchased 2 of these for graduation gifts however when they arrived I realized I couldn't give them as gifts nor would I want one for myself. There is no back to it and wires hang from underneath. You can't comfortably put it on your lap, which is what they're for. I went out to a local computer store and paid a bit more for three (one for myself) that were much nicer and made much better. It was well worth it.

The product does a great job of cooling a laptop and is VERY quiet. It is perfect for use on furniture, but if you use it on your lap, as I do, you need something under it. I used a cutting board.
The construction is flimsy, the wiring open on the bottom, and I managed to break the on/off switch after only 6 weeks of toteing it around in a case with my laptop. Leave it in one location, like on a desktop, and it should give years of service. If you are very careful, it can stand up to travel. Because of the construction issues, I replaced it with a Targus PA28U. This unit is more durable, the wiring fully enclosed, and cools just as well. It is not as quiet and is more expensive. It sits on a desktop or lap without additional support.

I tested this cooling pad under a variety of conditions to measure whether it truly made a difference and was surprised to find that temps on my Apple MacBook Pro MB471LL/A 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Slot Loading SuperDrive) actually rose when I used it.
I tested by performing tasks like permissions repair, copying files over my local network, watching YouTube videos, playing iTunes, and running disk tests with Summitsoft Disk Tools Pro (Mac) and measuring the temps with the free iStat Pro widget. The enclosure base temps didn't budge, but the CPU and CPU heatsink temps actually rose by several degrees when I plugged the Kinamax into the Macbook Pro's USB port. When the cooling pad wasn't being used, temps did not rise as quickly. I am guessing that the USB power draw from the Kinamax cooling pad caused temps to increase, a counter-productive result. The Kinamax is also loud, especially when compared to the nearly silent operation of the Apple laptop. My guess is that the cooling pad would be much, much quieter if a single large fan was used instead of the three smaller fans. On some positive notes, the cooling pad has an On/Off switch, it is among the least expensive available, and its rubber feet effectively prevent it from scratching either the laptop placed on top of it or the surface on which it is placed. I returned the Kinamax and will continue my search for an effective cooling pad.

I decided to buy a notebook cooler pad when my wife remarked that my notebook felt 'kinda hot'. Being a used notebook I didn't want to invest
a lot of money on one. After a bit of research, found the Kinamax FAN-NTP3 notebook cooler pad to my liking. With USB connectivity and (3) quiet fans - I thought this would be the best buy for my needs. Operationally, I find the fans so quiet that at times I'm not sure if they are on or off. Which is akin to the problem with the on/off switch, which is situated on the back of the pad. Without a 'power lamp' its difficult to tell if the cooler pad is turned on or off. I have no problem with the switch on the rear of the cooler pad, but there should at least be a 'power lamp' on the front indicating if the pad is on or off. Noteworthy is the fact that the pad fits my notebook computer perfectly and securely, holding it at a very comfortable/tilted angle just above the surface of the desk. Haven't as yet used my notebook on my lap, so I can't really address the point of comfort sitting on one's lap.

It cooled okay when it worked but the wires were seperating from the plug and it only worked for a few days. I sent it back and Amazon who replaced it and this one only worked for two weeks. I gave my Rocketfish cooling fan when I got this one. While I went through two of these quickly, my old Rocketfish is still working like new. I would not recommend this product. It's not worth the time or expense of returning it again.
