Space horror at its finest,

I absolutely loved this book. From beginning to end it was an action packed read and I couldn't put it down. The cover art is excellent and the premise of the book really draws you in. If you're in science fiction or horror novels you'll enjoy this one. Don't miss out!
The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it was short, but it's not overpriced and Eric S. Brown and Jessy Marie Roberts did a wonderful job crafting it.

I loved "Kinberra Down." It was rip roaring great fun. It reminded me of the movie Starship Troopers only in book form.
I thought the characters were well developed, even though a little stereotypical. I especially liked Stephens and Hewitt, main protaganists in the story. I thought both alien species were done well. I especially liked Xar, the Darian. I would like to see more stories with Darians. In fact, I would have really liked this to be a full length book. But that written, if it had been a book rather than the story it is, I wouldn't have liked the ending. And the ending worked well for this format.

Action packed Scifi-Horror Fest,

Kinberra Down in a non-stop, action filled romp through the furthest reaches of space. Brown and Roberts waste no time getting to the heart of the matter as the action begins on page one and doesn't let up until the final paragraph. There were a few editing errors and typos here and there but the breakneck action of the plot was strong enough to overpower them with the same intensity as the books insectoid antagonists. Without giving anything away, I will say that I particularly enjoyed the end of Kinberra Down. There are different paths this book could have taken to reach its conclusion and I commend the authors for exploring the road less taken.

How does Eric S. Brown do it????,
This review is from: Kinberra Down (Paperback)
I have read several of Eric S. Browns short gems. It puzzles me how he can keep churning these small novels out, putting so much detail into them, making you care about the characters and enjoying the plot. This was extremely good. The story was top notch with plenty of twists and turns to a satisfying conclusion. Excellent read! Sci Fi at its best as only Eric S. Brown can do!

Eric S. Brown and Jessy Roberts have put together one helluva book. As an exterminator I pride myself in my... kill count--I truly hate bugs. But the monsters these two have created will have me looking over my back every time a pick up my B&G!
For the crew of the Kinberra, the tale is tortorous, unrelenting, and set at a pace that would have an olympian asking for pointers. For the reader, we get a story that can't be put down. Seriously, I read it in one sitting. A plethora of characters, some with very deep, intertwining paths that we see as the book unfolds, and some that we don't really get a lot of details from, but their presence is none-the-less outstanding and very much needed. My favorite character, Xar, is a feline alien that, once unleashed, proves to be one of the major influences on how the story ends, which brings me to just that... THE END. I'm really digging on how they chose to end this story. To me, it fits in the most vindictive way ever, and I LOVE IT! In all, Kinberra Down reads easily, with only a few noticable grammatical errors. I went into this knowing that it would be a "short read," and am in NO WAY disappointed. I've followed Mr. Brown's writing for well over a year now, and this is definitely one that needs to be on everyone's shelf or in their Kindle.

Riveting read through and through,

A small chance for survival is a better pick than no chance. "Kinberra Down" is a science fiction thriller following the crew of Kinberra, as when a disaster brings their craft down onto an unfriendly planet, they see just how strong their will to survive is. Monsters lying in wait all around the arctic region, "Kinberra Down" is riveting read through and through.

Slam bam space opera 4.5 stars,

This review is from: Kinberra Down (Paperback)
Eric S. Brown and Jessy Marie Roberts have created a faced paced and slick little tale of war, aliens, and mayhem that is packed tightly into 80 pages that go by even quicker than you would think. This novella starts out fast, with the Kinberra, a human warship, getting assaulted immediately after coming out of void space into a war zone. Humans and Darians, a cat-like race, are fighting in the system, and before the Kinberra can get annihilated like the rest of their fleet, the ship takes a blind jump into void space...which sends them to a mysterious ice planet with some very dangerous indigenous life forms, where they are forced to crash land and make a desperate attempt to repair their vessel before they get annihilated by the giant ants that swarm the snow drenched planet.
This book barely gives you barely enough time to breath, as we get space battles, hand to hand combat, gruesome ant like enemies, mutiny, and even a bit of a love story jam packed into this very quick read. I devoured this one in one quick sitting and enjoyed it a great deal. This could easily be part of a much bigger saga of the war between the Humans and Darians, and we even get to meet a Darian that is a prisoner aboard the Kinberra, so the reader gets a taste of these enemies and how the fight. My only real complaint has to be that this book is so brief that we don't get too much of a chance to really get to know the people involved in this tale in any depth. This is true in particular of Jordon, Rebecca, and Xar, the Darian prisoner who is forced to fight alongside the humans against the menacing ants. I would have liked to seen more of them. This is a brief jaunt into space that gives you action that is fast paced with absolutely no filler, though, which marks it as a blast in my book. |
