5.0 out of 5 stars MADE ME KINDA KINKY!!!
Ursula 1000 delivers an incredible collection of fun songs drenched in Bossa Nova, Samba and 60s Cinematic flavor, embellished with the proper mix of funk, breakbeat and sampling! "Kinda Kinky" is great for all parties--it'll have your guests go-going their tails off!

3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda Kinky
Kinda Kinky it's a super retro DJ Album. The Alex Jimeno's point of view about music it's reflected in this kaleidoscope of retro music, boogaloo, lounge, french and dangerous tunes. Retro vibes and sounds could be cool in our days. Timeless music, SHAGGADELIC BABY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat Lounge Music that Still A Beat Apart From the Rest, April 21, 2002

The highly mixed lounge sound may no longer be fresh, but this third release from Ursula 1000 keeps the music vital. Digging deep into their record collection, the Ursula 1000 collective serve up a surprising uptempto (considering the recent rather dull efforts from lable mates Theivery) mix of dancable kitsch. Certainly on par, if not better, than recent the Fantastic Fantastic Plastic Machine offering.

"Kinda Kinky" is more than kinda fun! I was turned on to this album by a Mike Rogers column over at LewRockwell, and I'm glad I took his recommendation. I'm new to the electronic/DJ scene, but I don't think you have to be a hardcore devotee of the genre to enjoy this - it's just plain good music.

Make the scene with cuts like Beatbox Cha Cha and The Girl From N.O.W.H.E.R.E.! Smile uninterruptedly through happy track after happy track! Recapture the optimism of those happier days of the "mid-century," as the late 50s and early 60s are starting to be called!

What other album is bookended by tracks featuring giggling girls? No other album - and for that reason alone you must buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best so far., December 29, 2002
This review is from: Kinda Kinky (Audio CD)
This is Alex's best CD by far. Well, his "All Systems Are Go-Go" is still a great mix, but this is by far better then his first go round "The Now Sound of Ursula 1000".

Great all-around fun party music like all other Ursula.
A little uneven/disjointed, but that's maybe just because I prefer
the long arc of a 70-minute uninterrupted mix.
After Ursadelica and All Systems Go Go, I'd place this one third before The Now Sound. I wrote to Urula BTW and found out there's a new one expected in November.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great GROOVE CD (w/ no vocals), June 21, 2004
This review is from: Kinda Kinky (Audio CD)
I've gotten so used to hearing lounge music with vocals (except of course Buddha Bar) that I was caught off gaurd when listening to this cd for the first time. I love it. I especially like beatbox cha cha. And this is coming from someone who's never listened to Ursula 1000. I'm compelled to dance like the beatnicks in the early 60s. Kinda reminds me of Deee-lite in so many ways. If you like this CD try Bebel Gilberto's latest for a down tempo beat or Dimitri From Paris' first cd Sacre Bleau.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Hipster Ursula 1000 Does It Again!, May 19, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kinda Kinky (Audio CD)
"Kinda Kinky" is Ursula 1000's best effort yet. With each release his musical prowess builds and "Kinda Kinky" is so filled with surprises that only after many listenings can you grasp its complexity.

The humor Ursula 1000 infuses into his work is a welcome relief to the times we live in. How we'd all love to cha cha our way to oblivion dressed in the perfect Pucci number pleasantly numbed by champagne. "Kinda Kinky" should be routinely prescribed to anyone feeling down -- you can't help smiling and dancing and perhaps even giggling along with this perfect CD. Magnifico! Mucho Tequilo and Mas Ursula 1000!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Album, October 31, 2009

This is, as stated, a fun album, and also a bit silly! It's very light-hearted stuff and can put you in a very bouncy mood. The opening track is my favorite on the album.

There isn't much more to write about the album. It's not a serious composition or something with hidden, deeper meaning lurking behind it all. It's a fun, up beat record that can make you happy and, perhaps, feelin' kinda' kinky.

It you enjoy the Carte Blanche series, then you should like this album.

I love this stuff. Kinda Kinky is the best track. I heard it on VH1 All Access and loved it, but didn't know who did it. I finally found out today and listened to the samples on iTunes. I love it now. W2G Ursula 1000!!!
