5.0 out of 5 stars another good case..., January 6, 2009

As the title of this comic, Kindaichi steps into another mystery and it is creepy as usual. Even though the circumstance is nothing new, but the way the authors write and put up the story are very interesting. However, the ending is kind of sad but in some points, it is a new start for someone else.

Basically, this comic is very good. I'm not good at writing a review, but I recommend to anyone interesting in mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars A darker turn to the series..., October 8, 2008
This review is from: Kindaichi Case Files, The The Undying Butterflies (Paperback)
This volume marks an especially dark turn to the Kindaichi mysteries, which is made even more apparent by it's lighthearted opening. While all of the previous volumes had their share of the three M's (murder, mayhem, and menace), they all shared a relatively campy feel that comes with many mystery novels. This is not a bad thing, mind you. However, if the previous volumes were the first few baby steps of the series, then this is the series in it's prime.

In this volume we see Kindaichi and Miyuki once again get involved in a murder mystery in an exotic location (a mansion filled with butterflies), but this one is far more heinous than any they've seen before. This time the first murder victim is a small child. Kindaichi has to try to not only find the murderer, but to also discover the mystery behind the beautiful and rare butterflies that seem to cover the estate. Meanwhile, one of the residents of the mansion is a face from the past that Kindaichi could have sworn was dead! (And yes, Reika does reappear in the book, but she only appears for the first 5 pages or so, then dissapears for the rest of the volume.)

I was at first thrown off by this book. The tone to this is much more adult in tone, and the book is a bit longer to accomodate the pacing. This book spends more time in thought than in action, but the storytelling doesn't suffer from this. Some readers will be put off by that, but I recommend that they stick with it. The book might lag in one or two places, but overall it was still a satisfying read. I don't recommend that new readers start with this book due to many of the characters making cameo (or more main) appearances in the book.

This is a really powerful addition to the series!

i own every book in this series and I keep on planning on getting them as they come out (Though Ill be 26 when they are all out!!! 2 a year is not enough kindaichi!)

This book is really shocking if you have read book6 in the series Legend of Lake hiren! I wont ruin the surpise but damn!!!

The ending was a lot different I was not sure if I was happy or mad at the end of the book (not about the story, about one of the characters). Just makes me feel like they will bring him back for another run! we shall see.

Reika makes another apperence in this book I thought we finally got rid of her. Apperently not!!! But she makes it seam that she will yet again be a part of another book *not this one*.

It was also the frist one where a kid under the age of 10 is killed by the murder! Its a tragic story, but I did not feel to much for the killer in this one, only because his reasion for wanting to kill the people he did, did not seam as strong. Like they just needed a reasion. I understand getting mad but killing 2 people and trying to kill 4 was like pushing it.

But over all its one of the BEST Kindaichi's out there right now! I cant wait to read the next one!!!
