Kindergarten does rock and this book will help ease the nerves of a kindergartener to be. Dexter voices his fears about kindergarten while his older sister reassures him that everything will be fine. After a great day at school, he decides she's right, kindergarten rocks. Readers get to see some of the fun things Dex does at school while watching his fears disappear along the way. A great help for kids who want to know what to expect in kindergarten.

My 5 year old son loved this book before starting kindergarten this year and still loves to read it. He really related to the story since he had the same apprehensions and fears about kindergarten as the boy in the book.

With my grandson starting kindergarten in a few short weeks, we suddenly realized he didn't even know what it was! We hurried and bought this book, as well as a few others. This is the best book that we got. I like how the little boy gets to ask all his questions he is worried about. How he is a little bit afraid. And how his big sister helps him. The pictures are really fun and it is enjoyable to read outloud as well as to look at. It helped us open up some discussion with my grandson too. And I expect he will also be able to come home from his first day and say, "Kindergarten Rocks!"

I bought Kindergarten Rocks! as a present for my nephew who is starting kindergarten in the fall. He was feeling a little anxiety, especially since he is an only child and has not seen an older sibling start kindergarten. The book is lighthearted and fun and the perfect way to give an only or oldest child some older-sibing advice about the big day. My nephew reads the book every night and he has also taken it to preschool show-and-tell to show all the kids that Kindergarten Rocks! I also got Welcome to Kindergarten, which is a fine book, but would be my second choice. For any anxious parents, I'd recommend The Mommy's and Daddy's Guide to Kindergarten, which my sister now reads every night before bed too :-)

I have a rising kindergartener and he loves this book, as does my 4 yr old.

Helped my nervous going into kindergarten 4.5 year old. Touched all the points and got her excited about the first day.

I checked this book out of the library last year before my daughter started Kindergarten. It was such a hit with all three of my children, I bought it for our house and for some friend's children before they started Kindergarten. There are memorable phrases so the children can participate in the story telling, even before they can read. Great book for kindergarten and beyond!

I got this for my boy because he was going into Kindergarten, just by looking at the cover. It tells the story of a timid, bashful, boy who is so full of fear it was kind of hard to read. Throughout the entire book (until the end, at which point "Kindergarten Rocks!") the boy has a worst case scenario on life, "what if I get lost, what if this, what if that" blah blah blah.

One of the comforts for the boy is that his older sister will be there at the school, but in an older grade. This older sister is the one who keeps telling him everything is going to be OK throughout the book.

I have a problem with this.

Firstly, let's say a parent buys this book because their child has a lot of anxiety about going to kindergarten. OK fine, does this parent also have an older child who will be at the school to help the boy and encourage him along? If not, the fearful child in the real world will not find this book comforting at all, in fact may make him more anxious because he does not have the same support system the character in the book does.

Secondly, I'm not a fan of the "everything is going to be OK" statement in order to help someone through some fears. You don't know everything is going to be OK because you don't know the future. How about teaching them that everything is not always ok but you need to learn to deal with it in a way that makes you grow instead mollycoddling them. "have courage and go for it young man" would be better statement in my opinion.

I suppose for someone who has a fearful child going into Kindergarten, who has an older sister going to the same school, it MIGHT provide some comfort to the kid. But really you have to ask yourself, there may be some other things to look at in the child's environment if he/she has issues like this boy.

Thankfully, my boy could not relate to this story. It was kind of weird reading it to him. I really didn't know what to say to him other than that some kids are really scared and you should help them along and be kind.

After I read the book I threw it away.

This a great book for a kindergartner who may be a little anxious about starting school for the first time. It's about a boy who expresses his fears through his stuffed dog, who joins him on his first day. Once he gets there, he realizes school is actually nothing to be scared of and meets lots of helpful people. The images are bright and large. All in all, a good book to read together before kindergarten starts.

No question - between this and Miss Bindergarten gets ready for Kindergarten, my boy was all ready to go. This was a great way to ask if he had fears about going and what they were.

The only problem that I had with this was that my boy isn't taking the bus, which is one of the great points in here. After reading this book, he wanted to! But hey, not a biggie!
