5.0 out of 5 stars Great Color!
My new hot pink cover just arrived and I feel like summer found its way to my house a few months early. Love the color and the strap is very secure. There's less room around the kindle than there was with the basic black cover so I would say it fits like a glove.

I love the color on the new Amazon Kindle Leather Cover with Strap. It is vibrant but not gauche. What disappointed me was the quality of the leather and the strap itself. The leather is nowhere near as nice as the standard Amazon Kindle cover that I got when I first purchased my Kindle 2. It has a dent in it from the shipping box and you can see the construction isn't as sound. The strap itself also has a cheap feel. If you are using it to hold the cover when you fold it back, it bites into the front cover. I think it needs a dual channel resting space for it. Also they could use a flatter strap instead of a round one about the consistancy of most cloth covered ponytail holders. This is what it reminds me of, an extra large ponytail holder.

PROs:
Color choices
Amazon label
Amazon hinge technology

CONS:
Cheaper feel
$5 more for an extra large pony tail holder.

Decision:
Only if you decide you really need to have a strap with your Kindle cover, otherwise go with the standard Kindle cover. I've had my standard black cover for 7 months and it looks brand new (despite accompanying me everywhere including the beach). I've had the Hot Pink cover/w strap 3 days and it looks worse than my black one. But if you want a strap, I would go for this one. I love the hinge techology!

Amazon Kindle Leather Cover w/ Strap - I just received this cover yesterday, but it has already been returned. This is a nice cover, however, it lacks the basic corner hold-down straps like the original Amazon cover. Even the instructions state not to lift the Kindle while it is secured with the hinges. However, it is virtually impossible not to mistakingly lift the Kindle while casually handling it. Therfore, the Kindle may easily be lifted up as you open the cover (making it very easy to break either the hinges or the Kindle itself). Why would the manufacturer not attach hold-down straps? That would make the device much more secure. The outer strap is a good idea, but there needs to be a redesign of this cover with inside, corner hold-down straps (or other option) when the cover is open.

Yes, it stinks right out of the box. But it fades quickly. Day 1: whew!! Day 2: smells like new shoes. Day 3: not really noticeable unless you stick your nose right in it. Just lay the thing open somewhere and let it air out if you're sensitive.

I really like the way this cover fits my Kindle so perfectly without excess overhang. Feels sturdy and yet lightweight. Folds back beautifully and can be secured in that position with the elastic cord. And I love the pink color!

Like others, I wish it had corner elastic to keep the Kindle from flopping forward, but that probably wasn't possible because it would have needed to be stitched exactly where the outside closure cord is stitched. I like the channel on the front cover that the cord fits into neatly, and I appreciate the little leather tag on the cord because it makes it easy to grab and move the cord around. Seems pretty carefully designed, to me.

I love this Kindle cover! It is beautiful and easy to use. The best reason to buy this case is the strap. The strap keeps the cover closed and the kindle secure inside. It is compact, light weight, and can easily fit into a purse... Love It!

I like the look and feel, however it smells so strongly of chemicals that I can't use it! I liken it to an extreme "new carpet" smell, so potent that the odor lingers on my hands for about 2 long soapy hand scrubs! I tried to air it out to no avail... about 5 days, and still it is smelly! Sorry Kindle, try again!

2.0 out of 5 stars BROKE MY KINDLE!, July 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kindle Leather Cover, Hot Pink (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle) (Electronics)
Just wanted to make potential users aware that I was skeptical when I read that some of the covers for Kindle that were causing the casing on the Kindle to crack where the hinges insert, and I was proved so wrong. This case did just that. I bought the cover because it was made by Amazon, assuming that would ensure the best compatibility, and therefore fit and protection. After just a couple weeks of use, it cracked my Kindle. I take good care of my Kindle, kept the case banded closed when not in use, and I was so surprised when this happened to me, assuming others that had had this issue had done something wrong. When I called Amazon to get the issue taken care of, the were gracious and helpful and took great care of my problem immediately. The associate even told me that though the cover had been redesigned to try to eliminate this problem, it still did occur because of the pressure put on the hinges when the cover is opened from the back instead of the front, which can happen when you are not sure which direction the Kindle is facing when you open it. The moral of the story is, be very careful if you decide to try it, make sure the kindle tag is on the bottom front of the band every time you close it so that you can be sure to open it from the right direction, OR, get a case without hinges if you want to be on the dafe side. Color, leather quality, and look were all great, and I was disappointed that it did not work out.

I purchased this as a gift for a friend but when I opened it decided to keep for myself. The leather quality, style and functionality is excellent. Also for the price, it's an excellent buy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Elastic band is flimsy, November 24, 2010

I really like the look of this cover, but it needs improvement. The elastic band snapped after only about 3 months of careful use. I pulled it out of my purse one day and it was broken. Once that happens there's no way to keep the cover closed, and your Kindle could get scratched or otherwise damaged.

It also has a really stiff spine which doesn't lend itself to bending backward if you prefer to hold it that way.

Finally, the colored leather immediately started rubbing off at the edges and corners, so it didn't stay looking great.

I ended up replacing this with the M-Edge cover which also has the hinge, but uses a tuck-in leather tab to keep the case closed, rather than an elastic band. So far very happy with it. It has a much softer / more flexible spine as well, with space for their reading light (sold separately and I don't have it).

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Kindle Leather Cover, July 29, 2010

Case is stiffer than an earlier one I purchased, meaning that when I read the Kindle flat (eg on a table), I need something to hold it down.
