Amazon's Kindle Lighted Leather Cover

Our new design seamlessly incorporates a reading light into the cover, so you can carry your Kindle wherever you go and always have a reading light with you. Simply pull the light out to illuminate Kindle when you need it, and slide it away to be invisible when you don't. And since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed.

The contoured, pebble-grain leather (available in 7 different colors) keeps your Kindle safe and secure, while the soft charcoal microfiber interior protects the screen from scratches. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand.

The built-in, retractable LED light pulls out to illuminate Kindle, and slides away when not in use.

Never Be Without a Light

Our all-new Kindle cover features an integrated, retractable LED reading light that lets you read comfortably anytime, anywhere. The high-quality LED light illuminates Kindle's paper-like display, adding brightness without adding glare.

A permanent part of the cover, the reading light is located in the top right-hand corner of the back cover. When needed, simply pull the light out and it automatically illuminates, eliminating the need for a separate power switch. To turn the light off, slide it back in to the corner of the cover.

Since the light is powered by Kindle's battery, no batteries are needed.

How It Works

In addition to securing Kindle in place, our new hinge system conducts electricity from Kindle's battery to the reading light - when Kindle is attached to the hinge, an electrical connection is formed that powers the light.

The cover's hinge points are gold-plated, to ensure a reliable electrical connection. Gold is used because of its ability to make good electrical contact even with low force, and for its corrosion resistance.

Secure Your Kindle in Four Easy Steps

Read Comfortably with One Hand

Reading with the cover on, you can easily access Kindle's navigation features and power switch, while the rounded edges offer a perfect fit in your hands. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand. And the retractable reading light is easily accessible with the cover open or folded back.

On the Go

This compact cover is perfect for taking Kindle wherever you go. The sleek leather ensures the ultimate fit and protection, without adding bulk or weight. Our hinge system secures Kindle in place, and an elastic strap keeps the cover firmly closed for maximum screen protection. Simply attach Kindle to the hinge, apply the strap, and rest assured it will stay securely in place even when you're on the go.

You'll never be without a reading light, and since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed.

Amazon’s official Kindle lighted cover features contoured, pebble-grain, cowhide leather available in 7 different colors.

Read Kindle easily in the dark with Amazon's revolutionary, all-new lighted leather cover.

The hinge points are gold-plated to ensure a reliable electrical connection. No batteries required.

Read easily with one hand, with or without the light on.

Protect your Kindle on the go, and never be without a reading light

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a let-down... December 16, 2010
I received this cover as a gift and LOVED it. It fit my Kindle perfectly, it looks nice, and it protected the Kindle well when I put it in my purse. The light was perfect for me as I like to read in bed and my husband always wants the light out so he can sleep. However, after only two weeks of owning this, my Kindle froze and I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did. I finally called customer service and they helped me fix it; they also told me that my case was the reason my Kindle froze up. Apparently the metal hinges mess it up. Anyway, they did say they would credit the account that the cover was sold on. Even though I love the case, I wouldn't advise anyone to spend money on something that could end up killing the thing they got it to protect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It! September 5, 2010

I'm brand new to Kindle, so can't compare to anything else. I gulped at the price of the cover, but wanted protection & a light, so went ahead & got it with my new Kindle.
My Kindle feels very secure in this cover. Both the Hot Pink leather outside & the felted fabric inside feels very expensive. I fold the front cover all the way back to read & it fits nicely in my hand.
I love having the built-in light. The light is plenty bright enough to read even in a dark room. Sometimes there is a little glare in the upper right corner, but a slight tilt makes it read-able.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than anticipated January 3, 2011
I've been fortunate to have my husband's LED clip light to use as a comparison for this product. Despite other reviews I've read on how the light doesn't illuminate enough of the page, I've personally had no problems with this. Infact, I think it illuminates far more than the LED clip-light. Not to mention, with the LED clip light, we're CONSTANTLY replacing it's batteries (which get pricey after a while)! Battery costs aside, having one less thing to carry with me is quite convenient and I'm fond of how the light slips right into the cover. In addition, I notice far less glare than the LED clip light.

As many have stated, keep the wifi off or it will drain your battery quick.

It's compact and it beats keeping a cache of batteries with you! Also, for the cost comparison of a standard cover with clip light it's worth it just to purchase this instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic September 7, 2010

This new Kindle case is everything that previous models lacked. The built in light is great, and runs from your Kindle rather than needing additional batteries. The outside is slightly pebbled giving it a very rich feel. The inside is a dark charcoal color (almost black)
I thought I was happy with my previous case, but this is above and beyond that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Lighted Hot Pink Cover - Worth Every Cent! October 27, 2010
Verified Purchase
I had read several reviews, and have to admit that it really griped me to pay 1/2 the cost of the Kindle for a case. Amazon really got this item right, though.
Pros
- The light was worth every cent to me, and is much better than I expected. As others have commented, it is brighter in the upper right hand corner and fades toward the lower right. However, I never have any issues reading at night.
- While my habits may be different from yours, I read at night and use the light more than I even thought I would.
- Having it attached to the cover is more convenient than I would have realized.
- Okay...I'm girly! I LOVE the hot pink cover. The dark gray interior really compliments the graphite Kindle as well.
- Case is sturdy
- Like that I can bend the cover all the way back, and the elastic band will hold it in place.
- Love that the light draws from the batteries.
- Super easy to "attach" your Kindle to the hinges inside. I also like that other than the hinges, there nothing else that holds the Kindle in the case. I've never worried it would fall out either.
- Like that the case makes it feel like I'm holding a book.
- Cover has not interfered with my Wi-Fi no matter where I am in the house.
- Love Amazon's frustration free packaging!

Cons (or Neutrals)
- Price
- You have to work a little to get the light in/out of its spot.
- I have worried that the elastic band won't hold up over time. I use my Kindle a ton, and so far, so good.
- Though convenient, the light does cause the battery to drain more quickly. It's still lasting well over 2.5 - 3 weeks, though.
- Definitely adds bulk and weight to the Kindle.
- Leather is nice, but I can take or leave the pebble-grain. Just a personal preference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cover...stylish, compact, and well lit! January 21, 2011

I must say that I was leery of spending $59.99 on this cover. I have to say, though, that it was money well-spent. The color is great, (pink!) and it covers it well, but it isn't so large that it is too bulky. It's not even as wide as the books I carry around. It is easy to find, and the Kindle fits in there really well. I love the fact that the gold clips hold it in place and draw battery power from it. The inside of the cover is a gray flannel or wool material, and it is really soft. You can also bend the cover back while you are reading the Kindle, something I don't do with my regular books. The light covers the unit well, and it curves so that it reaches all of the typeface. I didn't realize that the leather logo was the tab that allows you to pull the bungee cord back. When I want to read, it moves out of the way, and when I am ready to put it up, it moves back in place nicely. I wish the leather on the outside was softer, but no big deal. This is a good value, because I priced the cost of separate covers and a book light that I would most assuredly lose, anyway. This came out cheaper. Thanks, Amazon!

You can buy some of the warehouse-returned ones at 49.99, but you have to watch the descriptions about their scuff marks and other damage. I figured for $10 more, I could get the brand-new one.

My cover light went out, too. After reading that it might be the kindle instead of the cover, I unhooked the kindle, put it back in & the light is back on. Easy peasy.... no???

Lights Out!
I had the same problem, but then realized that I hadn't quite pulled the light out all the way. Also, I turned the Kindle off and waited, and then on again. For what it's worth, that might work for you as well.
