Good, could be better., February 5, 2011
This review is from: Kindness of Strangers (Big Finish Stargate Atlantis 3) (Hardcover)
This is the second SGA audiobook I have purchased. On the whole, it was pleasant, but not much else. I gave it four stars because of Paul McGillion's versatile and engaging acting and voice work, but I'd probably give the story two stars. It was a mediocre "been there, done that." A planet about to become uninhabitable because of super volcanoes? The stargate is taken out by lava thus trapping characters on the planet? Season Two episode "Inferno", anyone? It just seemed like a very superficial remake.
Beckett's dialogue is not bad though. And there are some truly amusing moments, such as Beckett reminiscing about old times to his mother via a recorded letter(ala "Letters From Pegasus") or his impression of McKay whining.
It's alright but I would recommend "Perchance to Dream", the second Carson Beckett centric audiobook over this one. The story is deeper and dramatic and exhibits some truly fine work by Paul McGillion and Sarah Douglas.

Paula's review, October 16, 2009
This review is from: Kindness of Strangers (Big Finish Stargate Atlantis 3) (Hardcover)
As always, I find most of the Stargate Atlantis audio CD's and books to be well written and, in the case of the audio CD's, well acted.
Paul McGillion is one of the finest actors out there, and his performance as Carson Beckett is brilliant, as usual.
It's too bad that the CD's are so short. I think they would be more effective in their story line, if they extended the time to at least 2 hours.
