5.0 out of 5 stars The Kindness of Strangers, September 2, 2007
This review is from: The Kindness of Strangers (The Tales from Grace Chapel Inn Series #23) (Hardcover)
An uplifting novel involving Alice,Louise and Jane three sisters operating the Grace Chapel Inn as a Bed and Breakfast, who come together to their childhood home after their father (Pastor of Grace Chapel)dies. In this book Alice ,a nurse, is amazed when a volunteer at the hopital offers a kidney for a dialysis patient. Jane gets ready for an inspection at the Inn. Will an infraction close them down? Louise helps Florence with a last minute talent show. Always an enjoyable read and the series does not have to be read in order. Each author connects the history to the current story. Once you try reading the series the positive influence will leave you wanting to read more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tales From Grace Chapel Inn The Kindness of Strangers, August 17, 2008

This review is from: The Kindness of Strangers (The Tales from Grace Chapel Inn Series #23) (Hardcover)
In this series of books it seems to me that often times the 3 sisters let others manipulate and take advantage of them--which does result in extra stress in their lives--even if it's short term. I'm wondering why this is presented in such a strong way as part of a dedicated Christian lifestyle? Is it not possible to be kind, loving and caring without being a DOORMAT? Is it not possible to say "no" to unreasonable demands upon one's time and still be a Christian? To me a good balance in every aspect of one's life is part of being healthy both physically, mentally, and spirutally. In my humble opinion there are numerous situations where these sisters don't pracice a good balance--not just in this book but also in other titles from this series. It doesn't seem to me that these are good examples of a Christian lifestyle. What it says to me is, "Go ahead, take advantage of me. It will help me prove to the world that I'm a good Christian." It even causes me stress just to read it! I'd say that this book is one of my least favorites of this series.
