I find this Kinesio tex gold tape to work much better then K-tape. K-tape is pre-cut which doesn't leave you a lot of options. Kinesio tex gold is not pre-cut so you can choose the length you want. It also sticks to your skin much better then K-tape.
Remember to clean the area with alcohol to remove any oils from your skin before you tape. This might sound insane but my chiropractor's office sold me a liquid that is intended for use in your mouth that acts as a very strong glue to hold the Kinesio tape on for DAYS. The brand is Humco. It's called Benzoin Tincture oral mucosal protectant. If I apply this liquid BEFORE I put the tape on, it will stay on for a full 5-6 days! Otherwise it starts to peel in 2-3 days. The liquid glue-type bottle lasts forever too. I use a q-tip to apply. I have been using a 2 oz bottle for at least 6 months.

As a physician, I was doubtful about the ability of this type of taping in helping my knee and back. However, I was talked into it by a friend. I was pleasantly surprised and it has given me an alternative to wearing a Professional Donjoy knee brace. It is comfortable and surprisingly supportive. I would recommend that if you are interested find a certified kinesio taping practitioner in your area.

I've had severe constant pain for weeks following knee replacement surgery. My Physical Therapist applied Kinesio Tex Tape and I've had such an immediate reduction in pain, I've been able to stop taking most pain medication. It stays on 3-5 days and stays on during water therapy. Caution: Do not use this product unless you've received instruction from a trained physical or occupational therapist.

I've always gotten shin splints from running; regardless of shoe, surface or speed. I started running again recently after a few years off and after gaining about 25 pounds on a weightlifting regimen. The shin splints were back with a vengeance; I could barely get a mile in (and this at a laughably slow pace)before I had to throw in the towel. After trying all the typical remedies (stretching, proper hydration, starting out slow to warm up the muscles...the combination of which worked worked to an extent), I decided to try the Kinesio tape on a friend's recommendation. I'm not gonna say 'miracle cure', but it certainly helped to a degree I definitely did not expect from what appears to be simple athletic tape with a wavy texture on the adhesive side. I'm no longer limited by my pain tolerance, but conditioning (which is awful at this point, but at least I can complete a 5k without wanting to sever my legs).

I have used this product as a professional helping others and recently, for myself. It is an excellent tool for reducing muscular and soft tissue pain and to help re-align posture. However the adhesive can cause an allergic reaction and I have experienced that with my patients and to my surprise, I also reacted to it and had to stop using the tape immediately. I believe the product instructions recommend placing a test piece of tape on the skin for at least 24 hours or more before applying strips of the tape.

Dear next consumer,
I researched kinesio tape for 2 weeks before making a purchase. I settled on this one after reading its reviews. If you are an athlete who sweats when you work out, then this is not the product for you. I have an outdoor job, and after taping my arm for "golfer's elbow" the tape only lasted for approx. 1 hour. I am disappointed to say the least.
Good luck

Don't buy this tape unless you've been told that you need it and shown how to use it. I asked my doctor for a single visit to a physical therapist, who evaluated the problem (patellofemoral syndrome, i.e. kneecaps not tracking correctly) and showed me exactly which way my knees were mistracking and how to apply the tape to make them track correctly. If you're an average person without a physical therapy or M.D. background, you won't be able to figure out which way your personal knees need to go and how to apply the tape on your own. There are Youtube videos, but how do you know your particular knees need the same thing? You could actually be making the problem worse. If you can't afford a doctor's visit, try a brace instead.

If, on the other hand, you've been shown what to do, the Kinesio Tex Tape Gold (gold refers to the type, not a color) is great because it's sturdier and holds up much better than the regular. It can even be worn for up to three days (yes, it holds up in the shower) if you're someone who runs every day and needs the support. Just dry it with the blow-dryer on cold (hot can make it melt to your skin -- ouch!).

because as a scientist (orthopaedics to boot!), I couldn't see how this could provide any benefit. Even some of my biomechanic friends were skeptical but when I had a severe case of 'tennis elbow" (lateral epicondylitis for those interested) in my dominant arm, my occupational therapist used this tape. It really does work-taking just enough mechanical strain off the inflamed muscles and tendons to help calm things down-that, of course, helped with pain as well. It is critical that you know how to apply it properly to get the most benefit...it is not an ace bandage! It is not to prevent movement in a joint which is the point of a big wrap but rather to take a mechanical load off the injured tissues. If you have had a wrap by a pro before or understand anatomy and kinesiology (the science of musculoskeletal movement), the tape can be applied at home. There are a few tricks but ultimately the way to do it is to figure out which movement is painful and then use the tape to support that movement. It also helps to add some stretch to the tape application, for example...to protect the major muscle group running from the mid-region of my right forearm to my elbow, the tape was applied over my 2 middle fingers (cut 2 holes) first with my wrist in a fully flexed position (arm on the table hand and fingers pointing to the ceiling) the tape was stretched to reach about 5-6 inches behind my wrist, then my hand was forced down so that the tape was taut , then pressed to stick. The tape then was gently stretched up my arm and around the outside (lateral) of my elbow to about 2 inches above the elbow in a straight, unflexed position.Read more ›
