Editorial Reviews

Review

“It incorporates many important concepts and pushes the reader to understand information that is not typically addressed in occupational therapy texts. The author is to be commended.”

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Crystal Smith on April 28, 2011
Format: Paperback
I used this textbook during senior year Occupational Science school in preparation for OT school. It is very poorly written. It makes things that aren't confusing extremely confusing, and it makes things that are difficult even MORE confusing. It is formatted badly with charts and diagrams very difficult to read. For instance, under labeled pictures, the labels are written in paragraph form instead of numbered bullets. This seems nit picky I know but it makes it extremely difficult to read when the list is long because everything is jumbled together. The author sometimes uses an entire paragraph of technical terminology to explain something that could be explained in one simple sentence. Rybski uses a tremendous amount of jargon that makes things tedious to read and decipher when it isn't necessary. I do understand kinesiology terminology and terminology of OT as well but she uses it unnecessarily so.

All in all the book is very thorough and I DO enjoy that it summarizes the material at the end. Those summaries have been very useful. Not all of the book is that bad, but some parts you'll roll your eyes at.

Most people will buy this book because they have to so this review won't deter people from getting it, so just be warned that it isn't the best book out there.

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I purchased this book because it was much cheaper than the new version that was required for my college course. It arrived quickly and was in good condition. This version is almost identical to the newer version with only a few changes. I was very happy with it.
