I pondered a lot before ordering this magazine from Amazon.com, because of the only other review. My copy arrived in pristine condition. I'm very much enjoying reading it--a great "morning tea" kind of read, with short essays that start the day beautifully.

Kinfolk Is one of my favorite magazines as of late. I have been a follower of the publication since volume 1. Everything about the magazine (it's really much more book like than magazine like) the photography, the essays/articles, the layout, the clean refreshing feel is something I have never seen in a magazine before. I love what Kinfolk is trying to promote; a more natural simple way of life through entertaining with friends and family. I have recommended Kinfolk to many of my friends and have purchased several copies as gifts. You will be happy if you purchase this.

HOWEVER, I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASE THIS FROM AMAZON. Although it may be cheaper, shipping takes forever and a copy I ordered was damaged. It was not a pleasant experience. I recommend buying it directly from the Kinfolk website at kinfolkmag.com. From my experience they ship your magazine the day it is ordered and their packaging is awesome! They also have several stores that stock their magazine around the world, you can check if there is one near you. Hope you find this helpful! I wish I would have known this before ordering a copy from amazon.

I learned about Kinfolk by seeing a video of someone enjoying the simple wonder of baking a loaf of bread from scratch. What struck me was how focused the video was on the pleasure of baking, not so much on the product.

This was a perfect lead in to the magazine. But, this is more than a magazine...it is made for you to sit and read, ponder and hold in your hands. It is a tactile subject. Small gaterings of people, meaningful talk and friendship. The paper and binding are approachable and easy to hold and enjoy. The art and often poetic forms of writing deserve and demand it.

We are losing connections with others. Our culture in its race to productivity has lost much of the human touch and thoughtfulness of a conversation. Kinfolk slows that down and suggests that you ponder your environment, the people who are important to you and how that is nurtered.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a journey magazine, and you will enjoy the journey. If I could ask for a few things, it would be to push the theme into the writing and photography and artwork a little more deeply. Show us more of small gatherings, of the simple pleasure of friendship or making acquaintenances. As it is, you can certainly grasp ideas and anecdotes that resonate with you. But you can also miss them in the at times too subtle expressions.
