4.0 out of 5 stars Lancelot Carver
The quality of the carving that can be done with this tool is directly related to the quality of right angle grinder you purchase, and your proficiency with that grinder. I am building a log home and this tool is indispensible for log pockets, saddle notches, and tennons. I've had good luck with wildlife carvings in softwoods such as pine, hemlock, and cedar.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating experience and lackluster customer service
The information this company listed on Amazon is missing one key tidbit: this disc with a 5/8 inch arbor will not fit one of the best selling 4 1/2 inch grinders on the market with a 5/8 inch arbor! I ordered it, it arrived, I tried forever to get it to fit and it wouldn't. So I read the instruction manual details and nothing. I read the FAQ's document and they even...

5.0 out of 5 stars A log home MUST HAVE, March 1, 2003

This review is from: King Arthur's Tools 45814 Lancelot 4-Inch Diameter 14 Tooth Fine Cut Chain Carver Attachment for Side Grinder with 5/8-Inch Arbor (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool is a must have for anyone building a log home. Our builder had one and he used it in putting our house up. Now that we are finishing it, we have found it invaluable to:
-carve out grooves for the window/door bucks
-carve out grooves for wiring
-carve out large areas of the logs for light switches. I really don't know how we would do this without the king arthur. It would easily take 3x as long with a chisel.

This tool has allowed us to tackle many of the unusual challenges that come up with a log home. With each project, the king arthur has shown itself to be invaluable. Don't know how we would build this house without one.

Our electrician had to get one once he saw ours!

I have used this tool to cut down wood blocks for carving. It quickly removes material and brings the wood closer to the final carving stage. Use caution as wood is removed QUICKLY.

I needed to shape some timbers for a boating project and found that this was just the tool to do the job with out a lot of fooling around. Handles very nicely and removes wood at a good clip. As it behaves differently at different angles of attack it is worth the time to practice on well secured scraps till you find your technique.
The instructions are well worth reading, especially if you like to keep all your bits and pieces where they belong. This tool deserves at least as much respect as a chain saw, maybe more as it runs much faster and people can get casual with right angle grinders. I have seen more than one person set a grinder down while still spinning, this one won't be forgiving! Pay particular attention to the guard on your grinder and how it is set according to the instructions.
Chips fly a good distance, make sure you are wearing good protective gear including face mask, ear plugs and goggles, not just safety glasses. And be sure those around you are protected with goggles, etc.
Very pleased with the results using my 4 1/2" Milwaukee grinder, would suggest getting a spare chain if you are doing lots of production work or need to switch to a finer tooth pattern.
Worth the money!

I used it for scribing some locust logs. it works great.
Tips

1) I would reccomend buying a 2 spare chain
2) I believe if you want to double stack them you need to get one with a 7/8 arbor
3) the 14 tooth chain and the 22 tooth cain are not interchangable you have to buy two different units
4) if you are looking at getting a grinder for it also get one with a paddle switch and not a thumb switch it is a little safer I wish i did (I still have all my digits)
5) always use 2 hands on the grinder every once in a while it would jump on me
6) it is much faster if you use a chain saw to get within a 1/2" -3/4" and then

For rapid wood removal these tools by King Arthur RULE ! I use them for burying cables within walls before sheet rocking in new construction. I just notch out the studs along the run in a matter of seconds versus minutes it takes to drill holes! I highly recommend these for any contractor, plumber, or electrician! Excellent idea there King Arthur! Well worth any price.

I bought this attachment for my angle grinder a few weeks ago. It was easy to attach, and works extremely well. I made a free form bowl in no time flat. Not only does this remove stock extremely quickly, but it leaves the surface quite smooth, so very little additional sanding is required. Just be sure to work safely: this is a chainsaw blade and it could be dangerous if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. Other than that, this is a tool that gives provides almost instant gratification with very little learning curve required.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stump Grinder, June 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: King Arthur's Tools 45814 Lancelot 4-Inch Diameter 14 Tooth Fine Cut Chain Carver Attachment for Side Grinder with 5/8-Inch Arbor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Recently I got a 4" 14-tooth lancelot to grind down small stumps and protruding roots in my yard with a Milwaukee grinder. This absolutely did the job. It was quick, safe and I took care of the existing stumps/roots in 30 minutes. The instructions suggested that maximum wood removal is accomplished with two 14-tooth wheels mounted together, so I ordered another one today since there are a couple bigger stumps remaining and a few trees yet to be taken out.

Although I do not plan to carve or sculpt with this tool, it appears that very intricate work can be done with it. No doubt I will find some reason to shape planks or other wood with it at some point.
