Book Description

June 15, 2002
Two fictionalized stories portray transformation in the lives of two biblical men named Saul. Saul, the first king of Israel, is transformed from a beloved youthful hero chosen by God into a murderous tyrant whom God rejects. His namesake, Saul, a millennium later, is transformed from being a zealous persecutor of Christians into Paul the Apostle.

About the Author

MYRTLE NORD, a prize-winning playwright, has published Christian-related nonfiction and fiction in magazines and books during her fifty-year writing career. She began composing poems at age five, in the dust on the grand piano left for storage in the homestead house where she was born.

In the first-grade spelling bee she won first prize, a book! She was hooked. At Sunday school she learned of religious children's magazines. So began her fifty-year career of writing, publishing, studying and teaching. Juvenile articles and fiction soon turned into adult pieces, covering historical genre, travel, essays, and fiction, all published in national magazines. Included in anthologies are her writings from Bookcraft, Houghton-Mifflin and Harper & Row. As a playwright, her dramas have been mounted in California, Arizona, Colorado, and Washington, D.C. Five of her musicals have been staged in an Arizona Dinner Theater. Two national prize winners are in the Los Angeles Reference Library Play Collection, Vol. I & II.

She taught fiction and nonfiction writing at Ft. Lewis College, is listed in Who's Who in America West, 27th Edition, holds membership in The National League of American Pen Women, Mystery Writers of Arizona and The Society of Southwestern Authors.

A South Dakota native, she lived most of her life in Colorado, moving to Arizona after the death of her husband, Warren, her friend, supporter and devoted marriage companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chronicle of the good and bad in human nature, November 15, 2002
This review is from: The King and the Apostle (Paperback)
The King & the Apostle by Myrtle Nord is the fictionalized story of two men named Saul. Both take their core story from the Bible, yet each brings its title character to vibrant and unforgettable life - Saul the first king of Israel, who degenerated from hero to tyrant; and another Saul, who transformed into the apostle Paul and spread Christianity across the world. A work reflecting a deep faith in the omnipotence of God, The King & The Apostle is confidently recommended as a vibrantly written, fictional chronicle of the good and bad in human nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars The King & the Apostle by Myrtle Nord, October 14, 2002
By
Mary Eisenman Carson (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The King and the Apostle (Paperback)
Well timed, during a resurgent interest in things Biblical, comes Myrtle Nord's newest book. Her cogent writing style fits the tumultuous, world-changing times of Saul the King and Saul the Saint, Paul. Her gripping scenes from these obscure millenia drive the reader to dig out detailed old maps to track the intrigue, war, hate and faith--the clashing loyalties of Greek, Roman, and Jew in the far-flung empires. We recognize ancestral traits passed down to the 21st century.
Myrtle Nord spares no blood and thunder to make the two stalwart Sauls of history alive for us today.
