4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars and three fingers, March 8, 2006

This review is from: King Arthurs Tools 45822 Lancelot 22 tooth, 5/8" center hole (Vinyl)
I bought this tool at a tool outlet and couldn't wait to use it when I got home. It seemed simple enough, take the grinding wheel off my dewalt grinder and slap on the cutter and start making woodchips? It worked like a champ. I took a large piece of red oak burl and made my wife a beutiful centerpiece for our dining room table in no time. The next day I started carving a serving platter. All was going well until the grinder went flying through the air along with a substantial chunk of my middle finger! After returning from the emergency room I decided to look at the directions for the first time, I know, I know, stupid of me not to read them first but real men dont really read directions do we? If I had read the directions and moved my grinder blade gaurd to the proper position I would not have nearly amputated my finger. Read the directions then carve away, great tool, little bit pricey for a section of chainsaw chain and two large washers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Useful Tool, indeed!, January 18, 2003

I would have given the Lancelot Carving Blade a 5-star rating except for the price BUT it really does the job as advertised. It is very useful for pole barn, post and beam construction for fitting up twisted/warped posts to rafters, etc. Oh heck...it was worth the bucks.....give it one more star!

this is just the sort of tool i've been looking for and does quite a job of removing material!
it is solidly built and balanced.
one feature that could be added is, modified tooth design to enable side cutting.
other than that, it is a great tool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eats stumps, December 28, 2007

This review is from: King Arthurs Tools 45822 Lancelot 22 tooth, 5/8" center hole (Vinyl)
Yes, it eats stumps like others have said. Don't rent a stump grinder unless you a lot of stumps to grind. This wears you out because you are on your knees working the grinder.

It worked well on 4" to 10" stumps in my yard. That is not to say you can't grind larger stumps, but it would take a while and you get a little tired kneeling down in front of your stumps. I used a 7" grinder and it had plenty of power. I got a smaller lancelot and run both of them in tandem on the same grinder and it grinds stumps more effectifely. King Arthur recommends this, and it is shown in the documentation. This thing could be dangerous in the wrong hands. It kicked a little bit when held wrong, but I don't consider it very dangerous when the instructions are followed.

I only wish I had used this before I hit the a small stump and bent the mower deck on my riding mower. :(

my wife loves white birch. i found a piece of white birch about 18" in diameter and about 20" high. we wanted to plant a flower in it that would kind of cascade over the sides as it grew. the only way other than by hand (hammer and chisel + lots of labor) was to somehow hollow out a portion with a chainsaw which didn't sound like a very safe operation for me. i knew i had seen something like the Lancelot at craft shows where people made bears and such out of stumps and thought maybe that would be a safer alternative. well i searched the internet and came up with the Lancelot and purchased it. wet white birch can put this thing to work so i am hollowing and then drying a spell and will hollow some more. this is a handy tool for a lot of other projects also, so i am convinced i made a wise purchase with this one. it's easy to put on your angle grinder and easy to maneuver. you must always remember though that you have a mini chainsaw on your grinder and be safety conscious while using it. i would recommend this product to anyone who thinks they may have a need for a tool like this or who wants to do other types of wood carving on a large scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it., May 13, 2009
This review is from: King Arthurs Tools 45822 Lancelot 22 tooth, 5/8" center hole (Vinyl)
I love this tool. The only problem that I have with it is that when you take it off your grinder or take out the plastic plug , it falls apart. I plan on buying the replacement chains for the other tooth sizes instead of buying the complete sets , being that they are half the price.

The disk cuts, removes, and shapes wood like butter.
Feels safer than the last solid disk I had that could catch , or kick back.
I use it for carving, after roughing out my piece with a chainsaw.
Delivery was fast.
