Hollywood Classics November 20, 2000
Harry Cohn was a self-invented tyrant who ran Columbia Studios as his personal fiefdom. Extensive interviews and research fuel Bob Thomas's portrayal of a Broadway song plugger turned powerful player.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

Harry Cohn, the founder of Columbia Pictures, was a rough, undereducated operator who rose to prominence by force of will and profanity. The narrator--film director John Landis--has an unpolished voice that is perfect for Cohn's story. Landis's scratchy, uneven tone is fun to listen to because he seems to be having fun. He laughs at some of the stories he narrates, and sometimes his voice threatens to break, but Landis is easy to follow, and his diction is terrific. He is obviously a film history buff who brings his passion for the subject to every page. This type of narration will not appeal to some who want a more professional effort. But if you want that feeling of "hanging out and telling stories," this book is for you. R.I.G. © AudioFile 2001, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

5.0 out of 5 stars Cohn: One Of A Kind, October 5, 2011

This review is from: King Cohn: The Life and Times of Hollywood Mogul Harry Cohn (Hollywood Classics) (Audio Cassette)
Harry was a visionary and a dreamer. He was a hard driving man that saw the future and stepped into it with zeal. He knew what he wanted and he got it. It was his way or the highway. He was the only one of the pioneer studio heads that died in charge. Thanks Harry, for a job well done. John Landis tells the story well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Landis superbly narrates Bob Thomas' insightful biography, January 23, 2001
This review is from: King Cohn: The Life and Times of Hollywood Mogul Harry Cohn (Hollywood Classics) (Audio Cassette)
King Cohn is a flawlessly produced, deftly abridge audiobook about the life and times of Hollywood magnate Harry Cohn detailing is influence and impact on the American film industry in general, and the Columbia Pictures studio in particular. John Landis superbly narrates Bob Thomas' insightful biography of a notoriously gruff and tough studio head, a task made difficult in light of Harry Cohn's aversion to personal publicity, an absence of personal writings, speeches, and reluctance to be interviewed. Nonetheless, Bob Thomas was able to bring this Hollywood mogul to life as he climbed from a New York City song plugger to eventually becoming one of the most powerful men in Hollywood during the golden age of the Hollywood film studio system. King Cohn is a "must" for all students of American cinema and film buffs of those great Columbia Pictures movies that were only made possible by this unique and complex man.
