Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.

this is one of his very best sound-track albums.his voice is excellent but it is the band behind him that marks major improvement.too this point, band and artist had not sounded better.the title track really sparks...dixieland rocks does just that....i have always liked crawfish.but the two big stand outs are trouble and hard headed woman.this album should have gone to #1 on the charts and is in the discussion for best movie album.

Let's quickly dispense with the disadvantages: the disc's running time is only 22 minutes and two of the tracks, the alma mater "Steadfast Loyal and True" and the dopey "Lover Doll" ("never thought dollies came full-grown"), are embarrassments; and "Don't Ask Me Why" and "Young Dreams" are just ordinary '50s teen-type ballads elevated only by Elvis's vocal skills and commitment.

Okay, so now we're down to seven songs and 14 minutes, but this is where this 1958 "King Creole" soundtrack shines five-stars-bright, and you'll be glad you got the enhanced audiophile sound (which can be played on a regular CD system). Hall of Famers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller of "Hound Dog"/"Jailhouse Rock"/"Love Me"/"Don't" Elvis-song fame penned the jumpin', right-on-the-money title tune, as well as the phenomenal horn-driven, blues-rockin' "Trouble," one of their and Elvis's absolute best. Electric guitar and horns propel Elvis's huge hit single "Hard Headed Woman" composed by the "Mean Woman Blues" man Claude Demetrius. It reached #2 in the UK (as did the title song which was not issued as a U.S. single), and thankfully, as far as I was concerned (even at my young age), it succeeded in knocking "Purple People Eater" out of the number one U.S. radio airplay chart position. These three vocal performances by Elvis match the intensity of his acting in the film, an above-average one in many respects (with his acting being the best thing in it) that should have set his future direction in films but didn't (due to deals made beyond his control).

One of Elvis' better movies. And the songs are also very
good.

"King Creole", the title song, ranks among the best of his
rockers. Leiber & Stoller, what else is there to say. And
the back-up, D.J. Fontana, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, The
Jordanaires. That's what else to say.

"Crawdad", another New Orleans oriented song, is crafted
well and grafted well onto the soundtrack sequence.

I don't even want to think which part of the place Dante
describes, Colonel Tom Parker to be.

But that illegal immigrant deprived us all Presley the Actor.
The pedigree that is KING CREOLE got it the caliber of songs
it did.

This is a re-issue of Elvis' 1958 single. The songs are from the movie soundtrack of the same name. King Creole and its flip-side Dixieland Rock were innovative attempts to meld the then new sound of Rock and Roll with old southern Dixieland music. While the single was not released in the US, it was released internationally and became a big international hit. In the US the songs were released on two hit EP's, both of which top the US EP chart and were certified PLATINUM by the RIAA. While both songs are available on other CDs, this is a nice collectors item for avid Elvis fans.

This was a the soundtrack for Elvis' 1958 movie King Creole. It was a big hit when it was released, reaching number 2 on the US album chart and number 3 in the UK. The song Hard Headed Woman was a number 1 hit single in the US and number 2 in the UK (as was the song King Creole). It also includes one of Elvis' signature songs Trouble. Two EPs were also released with songs from the movie and both went to number 1 on the EP chart in the US.

While this was not as big a hit as some of his earlier albums, it was groundbreaking in its use of horns in rock and roll and trying to blend rock with dixieland. A must for Elvis fans and students of early rock and roll!

I was too young the first time this was released. Glad it's out on vinyl again. Great pressing of what Elvis thought was his best movie.
