"This is a complex superb romantic urban fantasy in which the first venture into the Staab mythological universe seems genuine due to anchoring places like Orlando and the fact that innocent humans are collateral damage in the cross-species war. About the Author

Elisabeth Staab still lives with her nose in a book and at least one foot in an imaginary world. She believes that all kinds of safe and sane love should be celebrated but she adores the fantasy-filled realm of paranormal romance the best. She loves to spend time with good friends, good music, good beverages, and good books (when she isn't making characters fall in love, that is). She lives with her family and one big scaredy-cat in Northern Virginia.

3.0 out of 5 stars Made the Grade: Chronicles of Yavn, Book 1 February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
3.5 out of 5 stars, it's an intriguing novel with its multiple plots, witty banter, spicy romance scenes, and characters that you can't seem to be able to guess at what they'll do next!! I will say that I found this novel unique in the way that Thad is portrayed as a vulnerable person/vampire, not sure what to do with his new position as King, which I thought was a interesting change in comparison to the other types of "vampire king" novels I've read previously. There are three plots within this novel, they are:

• The Main Plot: The relationship between Thad and Isabel (Izzy). Trying to prove that they are meant for each other, while learning about each other in a rapid pace setting.

• First Secondary Plot: Tyra and Anton's relationship. Finding out the truth of who Anton really is, and what will happen once the truth does finally come out.

• Second Secondary Plot: It's a mixture of the different characters ---
-- The love/hate relationship between Lee and Alexia .... not sure where that's going to go but I really hope somewhere good!!
-- Siddoh and his playboy ways.
-- Then the mysterious relationship between Lee and Agnessa, that holds the question of what really happened between them??

About the Characters:
* Isabel (Izzy): Has a big heart. Independent. Cautious. Vampire.

* Thad: Responsible. Wiry. King of the Vampires.

* Lee: Protective. Determined. Strong. Rough. Vampire.

* Alexia: Fun. Tough. Friendly. Human.

* Tyra: Thinks she's invincible. Mother hen type. Half-vampire.

* Anton: Kind. Wizard.

* Siddoh: Sneaky. Playful. Leader. Vampire.

I am very curious as to see what will happen next in "Prince of Power" [Chronicles of Yavn, Book 2] where the main plot will be around Tyra and Anton's story!!

I recommend this to those who like reading spicy paranormal romance novels, and to whoever is looking for a new series that gives new twists to what is already out there within that genre!

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising Paranormal Romance Debut February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
*3.5 of 5 Stars*

With a hidden world of vampires and wizards, blood and magic, and destined life mates, Elisabeth Staab debuts a remarkable new book in the world of paranormal romance. In King of Darkness, rising new Vampire King, Thad, must find his prophesied life mate, woo her, gain his powers, and take the throne all while fighting off his enemies at every turn. Suddenly not only does he have to woo his life mate, Isabel, he has to protect her and convince her that she could be queen. Isabel is a party girl, not used to having any responsibilities or having to answer to anyone. When Thad enters Isabel's life, her world is turned upside down, and Isabel must start living for more than herself.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I like the nature of the vampire community, with their political structure and their varying abilities. Also, the wizards, the enemies of the vampires who kill vampires and steal their powers, are an intriguing new villain, they act even less human than the vampires. This provides a solid and interesting setting for the story of how the new vampire king finds his mate and comes to power.

I will admit that I am not Isabel's biggest fan. From the start, she is a fairly selfish character who has serious communication issues. At the same time, Thad has his own problems communicating, and the pair are constantly assuming incorrect things about each other. This can get frustrating at times, but as they get to know each other, this does get a little bit better. I like the supporting characters in this story, they give more depth to not only the story, but to the main characters as well.

King of Darkness is well written, the plot has definite twists and turns and the pacing kept me interested and reading. Combined with the varied characters and setting, King of Darkness is a very good, very solid start to a new paranormal series. I rate this King of Darkness almost 4 stars. Kudos to author Elisabeth Staab for this debut novel, I will be looking forward to reading the next installment in the Chronicles of Yavn series. I would recommend King of Darkness to readers who enjoy paranormal, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the good reviews fool you August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am an reader. I read just about anything. BUT THIS! From the previous reviews I got strong hero and heroine. So I decided to give this author a try. One can never have enough authors to read. The best I can tell you is this book sucked. No pithy comments - no scathing remarks could describe how bad this book was. The plot if there was one was lost to the BORING characters within these pages. The male if we can call him that was totally neutered. The female was weak and pathetic. Her human friend had more spark than she a vampire did. If this is what is coming down the pipeline of new authors - I will stick with my Dark Hunters - My Dragon Kin - My Carpathians - My Ghost Walkers. I will leave these wimps that the other reviewers found so wonderful to them.
