About the Author

Robbie Castleman, author of King David, is an assistant professor of Biblical Studies at John Brown University and is the National Coordinator of InterVarsity’s Religious and Theological Studies Fellowship. She has written numerous studyguides, including Miracles, David, Elijah, and several books, including Parenting in the Pew and True Love in a World of False Hope.

Besides the books listed here, I have contributed chapters to sevral other works: For All The Saints (McGrath), My Heart, Christ's Home Devotional (IVP), and my husband and I wrote the study guide for Howard Synder's Community of the King. I also have contributed to the Baker Handbook of the Bible and have written for several journals.

My lastest work (to be published by IVPress) is focused on the biblical patterns that set the "guardrails" for Christian worship. I am passionate about God's pleasure (not our perks or preferences!) being the ultimate concern of faithful worship.

I am married once and only to a good man who loves me well, Breck Castleman. Our older son, Robert Dayton, is an art professor at Trinity Christian College near Chicago and our younger son is a pastor, like his dad, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Breck and I also have a beloved beagle named Chesterton and four wonderful grandchildren!

This book reviews II Samuel and looks at the last half of David's life. (No Goliath story). The questions mainly ask what happened in the passages. There are few thought provoking or group discussion questions.

I think this is better suited to an indivdual study rather than a group. If you are looking for a group study guide, get something else.

I was happy to find such an excellent guide book for my small groups study of I and II Samuel , the story of David. There are two books that cover the topic, this one is the second book covering David's time as king. I like the focus, the group questions, and the introduction to each study. This study encourages the student to think about the deeper meaning to what he/she has read and how to apply it to their lives today.

I just love this book so far! You will learn in depth about King David and be able to apply his life to yours to live a better life by God. I am on the 4th study and have to say that it has really exceeded my expectations. I recommend this to others!
