5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
Buy this cd, then make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy because when you play this something is likely to catch on fire! Smoke will be coming out of your stereo! "She's Nineteen Years Old" is a killer track...everything on here is great. Even though this is from later in Muddy's career, don't be fooled - the guy still knew how to throw down some damn...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good collection of latter-day Muddy...
...but now that his original Blue Sky albums (the ones produced by Johnny Winter) have been re-released in remastered and expanded editions, there is really no reason to buy this compilation.

It used to be the only available remastering of any of Muddy's late career work for Johnny Winter's Blue Sky label, and it blew the original LPs and CDs out of the water, but now...

It used to be the only available remastering of any of Muddy's late career work for Johnny Winter's Blue Sky label, and it blew the original LPs and CDs out of the water, but now that is no longer the case, and the three Blue Sky albums ("Hard Again", "I'm Ready" and "King Bee") are just too good to be condensed onto one CD with a less-than-perfectly chosen track list.

At least until you listen to this CD. After that you may feel the need to go buy more good stuff from one of the biggest names in blues ever. Muddy Waters was the blues, and this album offers a great compilation of his best work. Great settings, great jams, great musicians surrounds him. A great must-have CD for all blues lovers and players.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Muddy Waters., May 29, 2006
This review is from: King of Electric Blues (Audio CD)
This is a compilation of Muddy Waters later work. Most of it was recorded in the late 1970's. It is a list of all his most popular songs and a good way to introduce someone to Muddy Waters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent late-career Muddy!, July 7, 1999

Oops! The first review down there is not this CD.

This CD is the companion to "Blues Sky." With both of them, you have almost everything on Muddy's four albums produced by Johnny Winter. This collection includes live versions (from Muddy "Mississippi" Waters) of Nineteen Years Old, Nine Below Zero, Howling Wolf, and more. All of those are great, as well as Mannish Boy, The Blues Had A Baby..., and Hoochie Coochie Man.

Some great harp and burning slide guitar! Running time is 64 minutes. One complaint: the liner notes don't name the musicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album personifies the blues., June 29, 1998

Muddy turned down the volume for this album. His previous experiances in Europe showed him that his loud slide was not enjoyed. This lower, less dominating sound gave Muddy's sound a welcome blend of jazz. A spectacular band that goes back a long time with Muddy was playing side by side with the blues master. Nine minutes of "Mojo Working" leaves you begging for more, and the awesome re-creations of "Honey Bee" and "Blow Wind" give you a new apreciation for Muddy. This is quite frankly the best album I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, March 14, 2001
This review is from: King of Electric Blues (Audio CD)
This is definitely a great CD to have. I believe the songs on this were digitally remastered, so the sound quality is superior to most of the other Muddy Waters collections. What else can I say? A lot of hits, such as "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "Mannish Boy" are here. Vintage Muddy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muddy IS the blues, April 17, 2000

Great music by a music legend. Muddy Waters is the very definition of blues music. This is a really good CD even though these recordings were made very late in his life. The version of Mannish Boy that is found here is a must have! Dig in and enjoy, blues fans.

This is an awesome collection of blues tunes! Muddy still could fire it up with the best of them when he was in his 60's. The version of "Mannish Boy" is mindboggling and awe inspiring! The entire body of work with Johnny Winter as producer and performer is outstanding. I would recommend this to all blues/rock enthusiasts. This is the blues at its finest.
