4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, January 6, 2004
This review is from: The King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood (Video Game)
The deep fighting system that has become synonymous with the King of Fighters franchise is alive and well in The King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood for the GBA. Among the 21 available characters, you'll find old favorites alongside three newcomers who are exclusive to this title. King of Fighters' classic three-on-three battles are the mainstay of this GBA version with a special story mode that lets you vie for the throne.
The character art and animation are fantastic, as are the detailed backgrounds. The effects for special attacks are similarly striking. Unfortunately, the soundscape doesn't follow suit and is actively annoying in places. Each character's unique fighting style offers special moves and combos, though some of them are unreasonably difficult to execute. When you get it right, though, the results are sufficiently devastating. A "Striker" command lets you call in a teammate to make a quick attack on your behalf, which can also make a huge impact on the outcome. Cancels are a piece of cake and can lead to counters that annihilate your opponent.
Due to the fast-paced action, the controls will leave you with aching hands and thumbs. It's especially noticeable if you play on the quadrangular GBA SP. Of course, this level of intensity means that there's a good game underway, and you'll want to keep at it despite the pain. It is a must have for KOF veterans on the go.

I'd give this 5 stars because this game is TIGHT! A special sequal to kof EX 1. With a 3 on 3 battle, With charecters from Kof 2000. This game includes 7 teams and 21 charecters, With a story mode, And a VS mode to compete with your friends( Or your rival). There's a judging system that will rate your skills. With charecters named, Moe,Terry from the legendary Fatal fury, Charecter from art of fighting series and much much more! And a new charecter named Miu.
The graphics are highly smooth and great for a small vdo game.
Better than street fighter!
To rent or to buy: Rent it first to see what you think, But i'd buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fighting Game, March 11, 2010

This is an awesome game. Lots of characters, 20+. Each one is unique not generic. The graphic is very good, sound is excellent. What makes this game different is the ability to use 3 players instead of 1 like most fighters and this adds more replay and fun. Gameplay is solid; AI is good, loads of options, smooth animation, and great fighting engine which is pretty deep.

If you like street fighter you will like this game. This is a hard game to find but if you spot it pick it up for sure.

If you like SNK fighters, this will fit the bill for you to pack along during a long trip, once you have the controls set to your liking, most of the basic moves for each fighter are not too hard to pull off. This is another good one for the collection. 4 stars :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Howling' for More, October 28, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood (Video Game)
When I finally got my hands on this rare gem at a reasonable price, I thought that it would top all the other fight-themed GBA titles I've been buying for the last few months. So far, it looks like I'm right. The 2D graphics are fluid and never skip a frame. The gameplay is fast-paced and challenging. Special move lists for each character are included in the pause menu and I can execute most of them with no problems; you heard me! That's because you can change the control scheme in the options menu.

So far my biggest concern with playing KOF EX2 is the fact that it has about as many gameplay options as "King of Fighters XII." Another concern is that new modes and content is unlocked through the game's 'Orochi' ranking system. When you beat the game without losing or you quit after losing, your fighters' progress is evaluated with stars that they earn by winning matches. If one fighter gets 8 stars, he/she achieves Orochi (or Master) rank and can perform unlimited supers while in 'Master Mode' (Press the L & R button). Still with me? There's no way around this method, you can't rank up over time, and your have to do this with EVERY SINGLE FIGHTER in order to unlock everything.

After reading that last part, most of you would probably look into Versus Mode for replay value. But don't fret it. Just play the game on Easy and before you know it, you'll have a 'howling' good time with KOF EX2.

This game is rated T for Teen: Violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars For when you need to kick butt on the go, June 21, 2004
This review is from: The King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood (Video Game)
Naturally, nothing compares to the true experience of playing a fighting game in the arcade, but this little baby does a nice job of giving great fighting gameplay for those boring road trips mom and dad are always taking you on. It's not a game I'd recommend you go out of your way to play, but if you're going to have the time to sit around, this is definately something worth having with you!

Sometimes I miss Benimaru, but I think I'm over that now.

I have been a fan of SNK since i got a NeoGeo. I loved the fighting games, and in particular, playig as Athena. Them Match of the Millenium came out, and SNK took on Capcom. I loved it. This is just another installment of King of Fighters games...and like most all of its predescesors, it is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big big BIG improvement over the last game!, December 21, 2003

Now this is a King of fighters Ex! It has better sound, ( I lower down my sound on the first game) Better graphics and much better art and ending!
This game has a feel of a true fighter. This time you use 3 fighters, Using the next fighter as a striker.
The menu's look pretty awesom!
The bosses are highly more difficult than that stupid 3 battle with geese( Which was easy) In this one you have to fight a young fellow that turns in to a crazy maniac and shoots things at you!
The endings are much better, First you see your team talking to the boss and it shows some nice art work. Peh, Better than that ending with your team mates standing there and saying stuff with no picture. the new characters are Sinobu, Reiji, Jun and Miu. You may find Miu alot like Kula Diamond and Sinobu like Goenitz... The graphics didn't change much but there a little better, It's a pocket size game so i won't expect it to be a
Matrimellee game or a street fighter game.
There are some new modes and a story mode.
Perfectly, This is the best fighter on GBA... It actually came from worse to best! King of fighters rocks again!
Pick this up, Don't get EX1... Get this. The newer the better ;-), Except 2-D, 2-D will always be my favorite.
