This review is from: King of France (Audio CD)

Oddly enough I came across this band on itunes because Edward Norton put the song "The Beast" on his playlist and raved about them in general. I really liked that song so eventually I got this about for a couple of bucks. At first I was really surprised who different the songs were from The Beast, but the album overall stuck with me and I enjoy listening to it every once in a while.

If there's one major flaw on this album (which may be one of it's major strengths as well) is that it's sort of all of over the place stylistically. The shifts can be quite large- one song might have an atmospheric sound akin to Radiohead, the next has the herky-jerky sound of the Pixies, then the next has the creole jazz sound of Leon Redbone. All that shows how talented and flexible this band can be yet it takes some getting used to. But once your used to it, it feels like a band who put together a really fun mix of different imagined bands.

It's definitely worth checking out, and giving it a couple of listens. The best songs in my view are The Beast, Beautiful Horses, Sick Of Life, and Shake Shake Shake.
