Sol Hoopii is regarded as the foremost Hawaiian steel guitarist ever. No other steel guitar player has been emulated more around the world than Hoopii. He is considered a genius and possibly has the greatest picking hand of all time. His speed and dexterity have rarely been duplicated. He was known for his improvised blues like melodic ornaments, fast runs, syncopated rhythms, and various sound effects in chording and plucking. This recording represents his finest work from 1927 - 1936. Track 7, KA MELE OKU U PU UWAI is featured in the film score and soundtrack The Descendants, starring George Clooney. The Descendants is the first mainstream American movie scored exclusively with Hawaiian music, most of it created by acknowledged masters of the genre, both modern and classical.
