Thoroughly Enjoyable,

This review is from: King of Ithaca (Adventures of Odysseus) (Paperback)
The King of Ithaca grasps your attention from the very first page and leaves you hoping for more.
It was with some trepidation I started reading though, as I expected it to be a quasi-historical description of the events leading up to the seige of Troy. Instead I found with great pleasure that the author had not done that but had written a story which seemed almost as if it could have been written a thousand years ago by the Greeks themselves. The plot was excellent with some surprising twists - I certainly didn't see them coming and even when the plot was predictable (i.e. Odyesseus not marrying Helen as anyone with the slightest knowledge of Homer would already know before even picking up the book) the author did a magnificent job of making you wonder, Maybe? The characters were appealing particularly the loyal hero, Eperitus and they were true to Homer- e.g. Odyesseus - deceiving, Agamemnon - arrogant etc. The book was also well-written and descriptive. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am hoping there will be a sequel |
