3.0 out of 5 stars Two kings in Belgardia October 9, 2011
Format:DVD
All Editorial Review product descriptions for RCF's red box discs are a c&p text that includes their "100 greatest classic films of all time" blurb. These mostly obscure works are hardly as advertised. Also, picture and sound quality depend on condition of unrestored source material. Good to fair is about average.
.

In the MONOGRAM programmer KING KELLY OF THE U.S.A., owners of a theatrical troupe touring Europe are scammed into swapping the company for appointments as financial advisors to a bankrupt kingdom. Robertson's quasi-operatic voice gets tiresome, but Kennedy and Pangborn are great fun, as is lovely Miss Compton's ditzy blonde.

The first part of this zany story is on a luxury liner, the rest in little "Belgardia," which is ruled by a pedal-pushing monarch. Includes a surreal cartoon sequence where Robertson and Ware are a singing prince and his adoring princess.

One of the most underrated (and now-forgotten) comedies ever, you can also find a good dub of "King Kelly" on MILL CREEK's CLASSIC MUSICALS 50 MOVIE PACK.
.

Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 IMDb viewer poll rating.

(4.7) King Kelly of the U.S.A. (1934) - Guy Robertson/Edgar Kennedy/Irene Ware/Franklin Pangborn/Joyce Compton/Ferdinand Gottschalk (uncredited: Hattie McDaniel)

3.0 out of 5 stars Two kings in Belgardia October 9, 2011
Format:DVD
ALPHA VIDEO is the dba of a Pennsylvania-based outfit called GOTHAM. They specialize in niche market material, mostly vintage programmers and public domain stuff. Quality of their unrestored movie transfers varies from fair to good, based on condition of film stock and source material (often old 16mm broadcast prints). The only extras provided are a catalog insert and DVD-accessible title list.
