Editorial Reviews

Product Description

In Montreal, Canada, Black Snake and Mark Sultan played in the underground punk-garage band The Spaceshits. Following that band's demise, Sultan banged drums for Canadian garage rock legends Les Sexareenos. Black Snake transformed into King Khan and relocated to Hamburg, Germany to become the Maharaja of '60s super-soul with his band The Shrines. After the Sexareenos split, Sultan traveled the world with his guitar, serenading Brazilians, Laotians, Americans, and the French with his one-man band BBQ. One day a light bulb went off in their heads and they decided to join forces. The King Khan & BBQ Show was born. They released their debut album, recorded by DM Bob in Hamburg, on Goner Records in 2005. The record was deleted soon thereafter.

In The Red presents this long-overdue re-release of this classic in a newly expanded package. There are two bonus tracks not originally available on the Goner release and brand new artwork. This is a must for any fan of real rock'n'roll music. Take off your pants and dance.

Review

This is what it's all about; swinging music by eccentrics with an ear for a tune... the pair's raw attempts at doo wop are simply sublime. --Mojo

This is garage rock and true to it. It's a good album. I like garage rock though. That being said, I have had numerous friends who tell me that this album sounds dated. I can see that. I do think there are better garage rock bands who do not sound dated like The Dirtbombs. If your new to garage rock then check them out first. If you're dig garage rock and know what you're getting yourself into, than by all means check out this album. This really is a pretty strong outing from a pretty cool group.

This record rules. I don't know what else to say about it. It's the perfect fusion of lo-fi indie + garage rock with a silly twist, but is also musically tight. It makes me want to start a garage band and shall eternally remain among my top picks for parties, driving, or just when I need a pick-me-up.

Love this album! If you enjoy good old rock n roll straight from the garage then this album is for you. I really have nothing else to say. If you don't enjoy garage rock you wouldn't be here checking this album out, so I'm assuming you enjoy it, so quit wasting your time and buy this album!!!!

This was recommended by Matt Verta-Ray, one of the guitar slingers, along with Jon Spencer, in Heavy Trash when we saw them at The Crystal Bay Club last weekend. It's a superb blend of noisy Americana. Doo-wop, rockabilly, and straight up garage rock. I give it four stars and encourage you to check out everything by Heavy Trash.
