5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is the 2nd Annihilator disc i bought behind "Criteria For A Black Widow", which is a bit heavier in my opinion. Every song on this album is very good, typical Annihilator-type metal sounds accompanied by axeman/vocalist/bassist Jeff Waters, who handles all instruments except for this drums on this record. Some of my favorite tracks off this record are "King of the...

3.0 out of 5 stars A mix between Never Never Land and Set the World on Fire
Whereas Alice in Hell and Never Never Land were all out thrash fests, King of the Kill is a more subdued, riff based and groove oriented album. Still 100% METAL though (could Annihilator be anything else?). There are some ballads here and there but they are mostly well done and rather cool in their simplicity. Towards the end more speed metal numbers are thrown in (Alice...

Every song on this album is very good, typical Annihilator-type metal sounds accompanied by axeman/vocalist/bassist Jeff Waters, who handles all instruments except for this drums on this record. Some of my favorite tracks off this record are "King of the Kill", "Annihilator", "Bad Child", and the superb ballad "Only Be Lonely". Let it be said that I'm not one for slow songs, but "Only Be Lonely" is simply fantastic, and hey, its ANNIHILATOR! So all fans of the band should embrace this album, and for people who are looking to get into this band, this isn't a bad album to start with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soild, Jeff Waters effort here..., April 10, 2009

This review is from: King of the Kill (Audio CD)
ANNIHILATOR, or "Jeff Waters" as this CD should be called, did an awesome job with "King of the Kill". While nowhere near the early thrash-sound of old ANNIHILATOR, Waters remains true to his guitar playing abilities! The title track, "21" and "Bad Child" are my favorites, as his guitar is everywhere. I also like the bonus track, "Only Be Lonely" as it reminds me of when I was about to leave my family for a time (I'm military), and my daughter was crying when this song was playing. Very strong words, to be sure!
Anyway, DO GET this release. If you like solid guitar playing, you won't be throwing your money away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good, some great, October 19, 2000

I rated this album 4 stars. The reason for this is that about 2/3 of the album rates a solid 3 stars. However, there a several songs that rate an excellent 5 stars!! I am thinking of the box (a great song about how TV influences our lives), King of the Kill, Second to None (anti drugs) and Hell is a War. Very solid Metal songs with great built ups (The Box), great riffs (the Box, King of the Kill) and just overall honost metal sounds. Hope you will enjoy this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thrash Heads need not Apply, November 22, 2005
This review is from: King of the Kill (Audio CD)
Simply because there isn't a 'thrash' song on the entire album. In order to be as creative as possible, Jeff Waters wrote and recorded all the parts on this album himself, not counting the drums. This makes for several cool metal songs such as King of the Kill, Annihilator, The Box, and Second to None, though none of them are really particularly fast or thrashy, except perhaps the title track. This album also features a number of bluesy AC/DC style rockers such as Speed, 21, and Fiasco. The ballad is represented here too, with Only Be Lonely, In the Blood, and the short Bliss. It's a well rounded metal album and cool to hear Waters on vox, but it's nowhere near the level of power on any of the other albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice album, February 15, 2011
This review is from: King of the Kill (Audio CD)
This album has some good and some average songs. i can say that is just an ok album but much better than their first albums where they were playing stupid thrash metal. I recommend this album only to Annihilator fans -> its not something special.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have heard this album but dont own it., November 22, 2005
This review is from: King of the Kill (Audio CD)
Ive actually got it coming on order. Annihilator IS the mst over looked thrash band ever. Possibly the best as well. 11 albums and every sinlge one different. This one was middle era and stands up to everthing else hes done as well. King of the Kill kicks ass, so does The Box. Every album is sprinkled with melody in just about every song. Every song he has ever done has something catchy in it and this album is no exception. Speed is catchy as hell and Bliss and Catch the Wind are great instrumentals.Just go buy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still trying to recover the energy of "Alice in Hell", April 9, 2004

Here's what you get when Jeff Waters finally gets sick of all those annoying "other guys" that make a band and just goes it alone (although he did get a drummer to help him record).
Not a bad effort although most of the songs still lack the energy that was present on Alice in Hell. The guitar work is starting to be subdued (for good or bad) and generally this album is kind of a strange one.
I find myself not really having too much of an opinion on it. It isn't great but doesn't really have anything overly wrong with it either.
As an Annihilator fan, you have to own it just to have the "Annihilator" song in your collection :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a metal band..., August 16, 2004

I do not like heavy metal which merely is there to be loud. I actually prefer cheesy ballads and love songs. A friend of mine knowing this, once made me listen to 'phoenix rising' and 'sounds good to me', from the 'set the world on fire album' and, I loved these songs. I then slowly listened to the whole annihilator catalogue and found most of their songs were not merely thrash, but contained strong melodies and loads of different styles- the finger picking on many tracks and the change in textures and dynamics is excellent.
King of the kill is less thrashy. I love the heavy songs 'the box' and 'fiasco', but Waters can write ballads as good as any baladeer. 'Hell is a war' develops from a beautiful song into a multi-layered havy metal song, and is deep in meaning. 'In the blood' is one of the best ballads I've heard period and 'catch the wind' is a great guitar instrumental.
Why were songs like 'only be lonely' and 'it's you' (possibly greatest annihilator song EVER?) not on the original albums? Is it cos Waters thought thrashers wouldn't like a ballad? Well, I opened my mind to heavier music, there is no reason a lover of metal cannot do the same.
