The remake was better...,
This review is from: King Kobold (Paperback)
I agree with the author on this one--if you haven't read this version, only the rewrite (King Kobold Revived), you're not really missing much. The only reason why I chased down a copy of this version was to complete my set; I can easily see why Stasheff himself was so embarrassed by this book that he went back and rewrote it. While there were a few good scenes, the narrative wasn't as good as it could have been, and two characters definitely deserved to have been written out. The ending was also somewhat lame, featuring a classic time travel cliche (I won't ruin it for those who haven't read it, but it definitely could've been handled better). All in all, I'd only recommend this if you're a diehard Warlock fan and want a _complete_ set, or if you want to see how Stasheff's writing has improved over the course of his career. If you're not either, then go with the "revised" version and let this one go. |
