Get Bayou Classic, not King Kooker,
This review is from: King Kooker Turkey Fryers Package with Timer (Lawn & Patio)
King Kooker turkey fryers are crap. The one I had fell apart after only one year.I would highly recommend Bayou Classic brand for the following reasons: 1. The pot comes with a basket as well as a turkey rack. 2. It comes already assembled, except for the regulator. 3. It's much more sturdy and the welds that hold it together appear to be more durable. As for the timer that goes off after 15 minutes, you're not supposed to leave a turkey fryer unattended anyway. But I'm giving it a low review because it's very cheaply made and the burner snapped right off.

King Cooker as Shrimp and Lobster Steamer,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: King Kooker 1267 30-Quart Outdoor Propane Turkey Fryer with Timer (Lawn & Patio)
While the pot does an admirable job of steaming both shrimp and lobster there is one little drawback. The pot is intended as a Turkey fryer and as a result has a timer that automatically will shut down after 15 minutes (I believe). It is relatively easy to relight although you have to turn everything off and then back on. Since you have to get your liquid boiling to produce steam this can mean that you no sooner get it up to a rolling boil and get your shrimp or lobster in the pan and it shuts down on you.

King Kooker 1267 vs. Bayou Classic SP10,

This review is from: King Kooker 1267 30-Quart Outdoor Propane Turkey Fryer with Timer (Lawn & Patio)
I own this set and a competitors burner (Bayou Classic SP10). Since I only purchased the Bayou Classic burner I'm only going to be comparing the burners here.To my surprise the King Kooker came with a nearly identical cast iron burner that mounts in the same way. One of the major differences is obviously in the bases, while the Bayou Classic has a heavier base it rests on only 3 points while the King Kooker rests on a broader, square base. The other major difference (and a top negative complaint in the other reviews) is in the regulator assembly, the King Kooker comes with an electronic timer that shuts off the gas if the reset button is not pressed within 15 minutes. While this could be a lifesaver in some situations, it also can prove to be a nuisance. With a little re-plumbing I was able to "eliminate" this annoyance. As for the rest of the regulator assembly, the Bayou Classic gives you higher pressure and a longer hose (my Bayou Classic came with a 36", not a 48" when purchased from Amazon July 2011). It's nice to have that higher pressure on the Bayou Classic but I find that the highest settings wastes much of the flame as it shoots outwards 360 degrees from under the pot. A plus for the King Kooker is that the burner has a ring on the top that helps me center the pot on the flame and even fits our large canning pots. I found the the pot and accessories of the King Kooker to be of average quality and what you would expect from a name brand turkey fryer set. I feel that the Bayou Classic is a overall nicer unit but at the current prices not worth the extra money, and when it comes right down to it they do have a similar burner manufactured in China and a little thread compound can make one of the biggest problems on the King Kooker disappear.

Not going to last,

I got this fryer 2 years ago and have used it 4 times before it conked out on me. First problem is the timer, even though this was meant to be a safety measure it is the worst thing they could have added. It is battery operated and shuts of every 15 minutes if you dont hit the button to keep flame ignited. It completely stopped working on the 5th use and I decided to buy another gas hose that can connect to the burner w/o the the timer. The basket is for a small turkey. Would be better with a large basket like the Bayou Classic. Needless to say this was poorly constructed but got the job done when it worked. Would not recommend. Search for other cookers.

This review is from: King Kooker 1268 26-Quart Outdoor Propane Turkey Fryer with Timer (Lawn & Patio)
The fryer worked very well. We fried our first turkey, and the results were fabulous. The only down side was the product did not come with a basket. We plan on buying a basket before our next turkey fry. I would recommend this product.

Timer set to turn off ater 15 minutes.,
By 5k Runner (North Carolina) - See all my reviews

I bought this turkey fryer after Thanksgiving and pulled it out for Christmas to use. The timer turns itself off after 15 minutes. The turkey fryer will not work unless you have a battery in the timer. I had to keep hitting the button so the timer would not turn off. If I missed it I had to light the fryer again. It is going to take 15 minutes for the grease to get hot. I do not recommend this product.
