From the Publisher
King Lear of the Taxi evolved from a manuscript that was a finalist in the 2000 Gival Press Chapbook competition under the title Taxi Dreams. The book contains both free and formal verse. There is a short story about the poet driving Lauren Bacall and a story about an encounter with Mother Teresa of Calcutta. There are quotes throughout the book from Shakespeare's King Lear.
From the Author
King Lear, a man whose life was in total ruins. Often aspiring actors feel these same feelings of hopelessness and despair as they search for their illusive theatrical kingdoms. I have tried to capture through verse the plight of an actor in a city that is more interested in commerce than art. Yearnings rust and haunt the mind with failed possibilities. The life of a working actor does not always have a happy Hollywood ending. The mind of a taxi driver finds comfort in dreams that float through his head while driving in the chaos of a vainglorious city.
