About the Author

Benjamin's love for writing began with a steady regime of reading at an early age. This love of reading was encouraged throughout his elementary and secondary educational experience. While attending Bishop McNamara High School, in suburban Washington D.C., his writing journey began at the urging and encouragement of some very observant teachers. Ben began writing this novel at fourteen. Here, he writes about challenges, heroism, loyalty, and overcoming impossible odds to show he true human spirit in all of us. Ben leads an active life, with one exception. He has muscular dystrophy. His life had been one of constant transition because of the disease. Ben lives through his characters; there is a part of him in each. Benjamin has received numerous recognitions over his young life, having served as the Muscular Dystrophy National Goodwill Ambassador for two years. He testifies before the Senate Appropriations Committee with MDA National Chairman Mr. Jerry Lewis. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his untiring work related to MDA, and academic achievements. Ben is also a recipient of the coveted Eagle Scout Rank. Benjamin F. Cumbo IV was born on July 20th, 1987. He resides with his parents, Benjamin III and Deborah and his sisters Erin and Tyler in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He is currently attending St. Mary's College of Maryland.
