Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Like its characters, The King of Queens is a unpretentious but utterly dependable sitcom. Kevin James and Leah Remini, as blue-collar couple Doug and Carrie Heffernan, have the kind of chemistry that every sitcom craves (but far too few have). Layered on top of this solid foundation are the bizarre flights of Jerry Stiller as Arthur, Carrie's loud, paranoid, and combustible father.

The second season has no overarching plotlines or recurring themes; it's just a compilation of excellent material, including Doug's ego inflating when a waitress flirts with him; Doug and Carrie squirming when their best friends ask them to be godparents; Doug discovering that Carrie compulsively cheats at games; and a flashback to when they first met. It's the attention to emotional detail that makes the show fly; James and Remini take the most mundane material--say, an argument over where to go for a vacation or how their marriage lacks romance--and turn the many ways in which couples cope into a pugnacious duet. Their sparring not only is funny, but consistently rings true as irrational but oh-so-common human behavior. The show pulls you in all the more because the Heffernans make up just as often as they fight, demonstrating one of the most functional marriages on television. It's meat-and-potatoes comedy, but sometimes nothing else will hit the spot. --Bret Fetzer

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this DVD!, May 5, 2004
The King of Queens is still the one of the funniest shows on TV. I loved watching the second season on DVD. Kevin James and Leah Remini have great chemistry as a married couple, and Jerry Stiller is so funny as Arthur. The story lines on the show are so funny and simple. My favorite episode is the one about how Doug and Carrie meet for the first time. The episode where Doug tries so hard to rekindle the romance in his marriage by giving Carrie flowers is very funny too. I also loved the episode where Doug takes Arthur to a baseball game after he accidently hurts his feelings. Jerry Stiller is just hillarious in the episode where Arthur gets a job managing a pretzel shop. I also enjoyed the episode where Doug buys a RV trailer and argues with Carrie about where to go on vacation. Victor Williams, who plays Deacon Palmer on the show is Doug's best friend and a perfect supporting cast member. One of the funniest episodes of season 2 is where Doug and Deacon go to Atlantic City to go gambling.

This DVD does not include interviews with the cast members like on the 1st season DVD, but it does have a feature called A Day in the Life of Kevin James. It shows Kevin James going on various talk shows like Conan and Regis and Kelly and having fun playing baseball. This extra feature shows that Kevin James is such a nice person in real life. This DVD is really fun to watch. I can't wait until the 3rd season of the show is released on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Show With hillarious humor, December 22, 2006
I watch The King of Queens since 1998 almost daily and I am still laughing about episodes I watch the 4th time already.

Some of my favorite episodes are on this 3-Disc-Set and this season is pne of my favorites.

The often bad disc quality of the 1st season is way better now and you can actually see something in Artur's basement and at night in Doug and Carrie's bedroom.

The following episodes are on:
Disc 1
Queasy Rider - Doug rides high on the hog when he buys a new motorcycle
Female Problems - Doug's jelous of Carrie's new girlfriend next door.
Assaulted Nuts - Doug goofs off at work and ends up in the emergency room.
Parrent Trapped - Deacon and Kelly ask Doug and Carrie to be their son's godparents.
Dire Strayts - It's husbands vs. wives when Ray and Debra Barone visit Doug and Carrie
Doug Out - It's a field of nightmares when Doug takes Arthur to a Mets game.
Tube Stakes - Doug's big screen TV gets stolen ... and Carrie feels responsible. (MY FAVORITE)
Get Away - It turns out a vacation with Deacon and Kelly is no holiday for Doug and Carrie.
Roamin' Holiday - Thanksgiving with the Heffernans: stuffed with laughs, as always
I, Candy - Doug achieves "hunk" status when a waitress checks him out.

Disc 2
Sparing Carrie - Doug is spared no guilt when he's asked to cut Carrie from their bowling team.
Net Prophets - Will Doug and Carrie agree on how to invest his Christmas bonus? 'Tis the season for miracles.
Block Buster - At a football team reunion, game day memories put Doug on the defense.
Frozen Pop - During a cold snap, Arthur warms up to sleeping upstairs, right across from Doug and Carrie.
Party Favor - Doug throws a bachelor party that's stripped of all fun.
Fair Game - On game night Doug's a player ... and Carries's a cheater?!
The Shmenkmans - Doug and Carrie try to keep their new friends away from their best friends.
Meet Byproduct - When Doug met Carrie, it was loathe at first sight.
Wild Cards - With Doug and Deacon loose in ATlantic City, jokers are wild!
Surprise Artie - Shhh! It's Artjur's surprise party ... but the real surprise is on Doug and Carrie.

Disc 3
Big Dougie - Doug's decision to be a big brother turns into a big bother.
Soft Touch - Debt of a salesman ... Doug's a sucker for a good pyramid scheme.
Restaurant Row - Doug and Carrie serve up chaos at a new neighborhood eatery.
The Whine Country - Doug and Carries big vacation comes down to a coin toss.
Flower Power - When Doug and Carrie try to reignite their marriage, somebody's about to get burned.

All in all you can say that every episode has it's own story, but the whole season is a story by itself, too.

The actors are great, Kevin James, Leah Rimini, and Jerry Stiller, and there are lots of hillarious jokes when you cannot hide your laugh tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Laughs Continue In Season Two, April 29, 2004
By Christopher J. Cooper (Mesa, Az United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I just finished watching the second season of The King Of Queens. This season is about the same as the first (comedy wise). The writing is still great and very fresh. This show is still the show about the "common" guy and how he tries to get by in life. This season has a little more character development. Arthur becomes crazier and more obsessed. His classic line from this season has to be when he talks about getting beat up by a biker gang and a young man named "Road Hog" taking advantage of him. Doug becomes more aggresively angry and gets jealous a lot easier. Him seems to try to fit in with others better, i.e. becoming a big brother and trying to run a 10K. Carrie doesn't change too much. We learn that she is a chronic cheater at games, but other than that she is the same great character.

As for the quality of the DVDs, this season is far better. The first season was a little fuzzy because they tried to put too many shows on one disc. There is one less episode on each disc this season and the difference is noticable. The special features are not as good as I would like, but the humor of the show is enough to hold this set up on its own. I would recommend getting this set if your a fan of good comedy.
