5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding value!
I am usually hesistant to order bed frames sight unseen, but because of the reviews (and the price) I took a chance with this product.

Short and sweet: high quality, great finish, perfect fight.

3.0 out of 5 stars ?
I bought this to use as my main bed frame with a new latex mattress. I feel that there is too much space in between the slats (about 4 and a half inches) to make this frame supportive enough for my mattress. The wood slats are about 2 inches wide, and the mattress dips slightly into the 4 and a half inch spaces. I did not want to, but I felt as another reviewer put it-...

I am usually hesistant to order bed frames sight unseen, but because of the reviews (and the price) I took a chance with this product.

Short and sweet: high quality, great finish, perfect fight.

First thing I noticed was the screws screw into metal, not wood. Nice! The finish was very smooth and was ready for staining/sealing out of the box. I decided to finish it with Danish Oil for a natural finish. Looks fantastic. All holes lined up perfectly. All pieces fit together correctly, and everything is level. The quality for the price is A+. It does stand tall.....taller than my old metal frame/box spring/mattress combo. As a matter of fact, it is tall enough for me to easily climb under (6'0", 180lbs), but I like it that way. I was able to assemble it by myself in 30 minutes. TIP: use a box to hold up one end while you work on the opposite end.

The only thing I would warn others about is the gap in the middle is wider than shown in the picture. It didn't matter to me since I was laying down some plywood for a memory foam mattress, but I wanted to let others know.

I saw much cheaper (not to mention heavier) particle board platform beds locally in shops for $250+ and none matched the quality of this frame.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, but..., June 25, 2009

I've given this product 4 stars because it's well constructed, BUT I want to make quite clear what you CAN'T do with this bed: put a mattress directly on top of it. Other reviews have made it sound like you can get away without a boxspring or some other solution- this isn't the case. The reason is that the two planks of wood running down the center of the bed are not flush (by about 3/8ths of an inch) with the slats running across each side. The end result is that you can easily feel a line running down the center of the mattress (and my mattress is atleast 10 inches thick).

While I've been sleeping well enough, I can't imagine this setup is good for the mattress in the long term. I'll be going to Lowe's to try to get 2 thin sheets of wood to place over the slats (so that those 2 areas of the bed are even with the center of the bed).

Other than that, the product is attractive, simple to put together and feels solid. I just don't want anybody else to be surprised that a bed this high off the ground doesn't naturally facilitate a mattress only setup.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great bed., July 5, 2007
This is a very solid bed, it is very well made and sturdy. I absolutely love the look of it, and it was easy to put together (even though the instructions were very brief). It is much higher off the floor than I expected, so be mindful of the measurements, it doesn't hover right over the floor, as it seems in the picture. It is quite high off the ground, check out the measurements. I absolutely love the way it looks with pillows and blankets. It was WELL worth the $.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value and solid wood construction. Easy to Assemble, September 3, 2010
This product is priced even cheaper than garbage IKEA particleboard/MDF furniture. But unlike those, this is actually quality poplar hardwood, well cut and toleranced and easy to put together. Assembly was a breeze and bolts go into metal inserts allowing proper torque and tight assembly.

Regarding the center beams: Yes, they are higher than the slats by nearly exactly 3/16". It is NOT 3/8" or 1/2" like other reviews are saying. At 3/16" it CAN pose a problem with thinner futons but most likely you will not notice it.

Home Depot sells a 3/16" tempered pegboard material that is 48 inches by 96 inches. You can cut it into two panels at 24 inches by 78 inches each and you will be able to lay them over the slats for an even platform. The pegboard material is recommended for proper airflow.

At this price, I think it is not absurd to have to do a little DIY handiwork to get it perfect. Especially since the final product is excellent (unlike other cheap furniture where even after some DIY clamping and gluing and creativity, the final product leaves a lot to be desired).

Clearance under the bed is 11.75" leaving a lot of room to store stuff.

Highly recommended but beware the center beams MAY pose a problem and you may want to get some material to improve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful frame!, September 7, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am very happy with this frame. I am all for real-wood furniture, which is lighter than "created" wood, looks better, and is much easier to work with. I had no trouble putting this together by myself. It is also light enough in weight for me to move by myself without much of a problem, which is a big concern for me. My only problem is that I want to use a 4" memory foam mattress with it, and you can feel the ridges of the slats through the mattress. I could have chosen a bigger, heavier created wood platform bed that was lower to the ground, did not allow for storage underneath the bed, and was much more cumbersome, but I am still happy with this one. I do think I might try to purchase some plywood to put over the frame, though, so I have a solid bottom under my mattress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great purchase, November 30, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Putting this together was much easier than I'd expected. Legs are 1 X 3, not 2 X 4. It is at a convenient height from the floor to accomodate under-bed storage. Wood is relatively lightweight, and the edges are rounded, not sharp or splintery or warped. (Not a single splinter in my fingers during assembly!) Screws are joined to other metal hardware, not directly to the wood, so if you take the bed apart and reassemble it someday, the wood in the holes won't disintegrate. Best of all, it's made in USA. Contrary to the photo, the Full size has a longitudinal gap of several inches down the center, to accomodate tightening the hardware. Therefore I recommend a foundation (like plywood) for use under a memory foam mattress. Instructions recommend tightening the hardware after 30-90 days, and that's true. This sturdy bed is a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars I ordered another one I like it so well, September 17, 2009
For someone else who asked, the clearance under the bed from floor to side slat is 10 inches so there is plenty of room to store under-the-bed storage boxes (3) in my case. I ordered the full size bed about 5? years ago and I love it because I like a very firm bed. Yes, it is sturdy and doesn't wiggle a bit so if you are having sex the neighbors won't know (by the movement of the bed anyway). The bed is easy to put together in about 20 min. and the bed I got all the pieces fit perfectly. It comes with 2 hex screw drivers so you don't need any tools. I love the fact that if you move frequently it is very easy to break down and then you can just duct tape all the pieces together and put them on the truck or moving van. And then the only other piece you have to move is ONE mattress of your choosing - no lousy bulky box springs to move. I hate box springs and springy beds and soft mattresses that hurt my back and get a dip in the middle so you are always having to flip them. At this price for a platform bed it is worth it to spend a little and get a nice mattress that you like!

I am ordering a 2nd bed for my son who also likes a nice firm bed and tried out mine. Since it comes unfinished that is good because you can paint or stain it however you like. In his case we are staining it black with Rit dye because he likes the black but yet it lets the grain show. I've used Rit dye on other unfinished furnitures with great results...check out the Rit dye website if you are interested in this technique.

I would definitely recommend this bed if you are looking for a platform plus you can order it with headboard and/or storage drawers. I've looked at other platforms but they always have that side wood thingy that you have to climb over to get in bed - I don't need that. I love my simple bed!

When ordering this bed, I became excited at all the 5-star reviews. I was hoping mine would be as well, but the bed was a bit more difficult to put together than I was led to believe (needed both my teenage son and daughter to give me a hand). One of the screws did not line up with the metal dowel, so the bed is put together minus one screw. Other than that, the bed is sturdy and attractive with its simple lines. Height: 14-1/2".

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality., May 3, 2009
This is a beautiful, well designed, simple, WOOD(!) frame. The item arrived quickly and assembly took me about an hour. I required no assistance.

I am using the frame with a 10 inch memory foam mattress. If anyone is using the frame with a thinner foam mattress, I recommend picking up some wood slats or a sheet of wood. The slats might be too far apart to provide proper support.

It's rare these days that one can pick up a quality item for a good price. In other words, I am VERY pleased with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, Light-weight, and Competitive Price, March 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am normally hesitant to buy products when I think the shipping price might make the whole purchase more expensive than just buying it straight from the store, but this was definitely worth it. Even with the shipping, it's still the most inexpensive "platform" bed out there. The package arrived unbelievably fast, the assembly instructions were very clear, and the height was perfect foif you're using just a mattress. If you're buying this bed, make sure you have someone help you with the assembly - I did it by myself and it cost me an extra hour. Overall, you get more for what you pay for.
