5.0 out of 5 stars This is a masterpiece!, July 9, 2010

This review is from: King of a Sovereign Nation: In Defense of Complete Selfishness (Paperback)
Wow, this book is really profound! Intelligently written yet so straight forward that it's complexity becomes simple. I'm totally blown away how much sense this book makes, and I feel like it has already changed my life for the better. I will indeed read the book several more times and I'm sure I will be referring to it when I need to make decisions for the rest of my life.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but I feel like this book can really help people, and free us from the oppressive "obligations" that this society puts on us. It's so obvious when you read this book that if you will apply Justin Rhodes philosophy, there will be no limits to your success. This is my all time favorite book and I hope a lot of people get its message. The author's style is just right too. Humorously blunt and honest. I love it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Original and Exciting Views on Rational Living - Very very good, June 4, 2010
This book is likely the most meaningful piece I have ever read. It is brilliant in style and content and has such a high density of new ideas that you come back to read it several times.

Rhodes takes a no-nonsense approach to rational living. He clearly works out what incentivizes people and takes a refreshingly new approach to looking at the limited lifetime we have available. The perspective in "King of a Sovereign Nation" is completely based on individualism... I wouldn't be surprised if this timeless masterpiece will be picked up one day as one of the core readings to understanding our generation.

What I just found out halfway through the book is that the book title actually describes how Rhodes recommends a man should live... responsible, self-focused, risk-aware... just like you are in charge of your own country and have to defend the way of life that you are seeking.

Rhodes is walking right on the edge of being sarcastic and cynical at times; partially it's hard to tell if he's serious or just going over the top to make a point. I like it a lot, it's very original and provocative.

Note that the foreword is written by Dick Wagner, a rock legend who was responsible for huge successes of Alice Cooper and other bands. He apparently has lived a life full with excitement himself and gives great perspective in his opening statement.

This is the one book that I'd take to that lonely island. I first got the kindle version but I need the actual hardcopy too when it comes out this June... and if it was only for the nice cover art work :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing philosophy, August 11, 2010
This review is from: King of a Sovereign Nation: In Defense of Complete Selfishness (Paperback)
As a rule, I don't read self-help or lifestyle books but this one caught my attention. The text is very well written, easy to read and entertaining. The ideas presented are insightful and thought-provoking, causing some interesting discussions around our dinner table. I don't agree with everything that Justin Rhodes presented nor do I think everyone can easily change their way of thinking to the lifestyle he suggests but he does present strong arguments on the use of selfishness in our world. He is right in that people often live too much in a drama-filled world and that dissatisfaction can be a powerful motivator. The book is certainly worth reading.
