4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection
While the volume on this CD doesn't seem quite right, this is nonetheless an excellent collection by one of the all-time greats. Those who love zydeco should buy it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stinko recording volume
The volume on this CD is lower than on any other I own. Clifton is great, but don't play this with others, you'll be constantly adjusting the volume.

I twice wrote to Arloo the recording company - but they do not answer letters from unhappy customers.

I would not buy this cd or any from this company.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "sound" collection of Chenier, August 4, 2011
This is a satisfying collection of Chenier's different styles, from uptempo dance numbers to slower blues. It's amusing hearing a Muddy Waters' riff on the accordion (one number sounds like "Sail On, My Little Honeybee")or a vocal that could have come off a Lightnin' Hopkins album (Hopkins was married to Chenier's cousin, I think). But his blues aren't his best feature; it's the infectious joy of dance tunes that make him special. I am mystified by the complaints over the sound (written, it appears, by the same patron at different times but unfortunately counted twice by Amazon and dragging down the rating.) The volume is quite adequate if not on head-banger level, and the fidelity perfectly clean, even on live numbers, so unless I have a different pressing (the catalogue number is the same), I'd say go ahead try this if you want a good survey of Chenier. I think it's more a 4- than 5-star album, but I want to correct the imbalance created by the improper double count of the unrealistic 1-star rating.

This CD is recorded at a much lower volume level than any other that I own. If you are going to play it by itself it may be OK, just crank up the volume control. If you play it mixed with others, I would try another. Arhoolie the publisher does not respond to complaints on this issue.
