Book Description

"I seriously think King of Paine is the most canny and intelligent suspense piece I've ever read...This book will become your newest obsession as well as your biggest nightmare." -Miraculous!

A desperate patient. A rumored cure. How far would you go to save your own life?

King of Paine is a sexy, fast-paced suspense novel filled with characters who grapple with a range of intriguing end-of-life issues while everything they care about is at stake. The story follows two investigations, Special Agent Frank Paine's pursuit of a stalker committing a series of kinky Internet crimes and a reporter tracking the disappearance of wealthy senior citizens across the nation. Both paths lead to a hidden enclave where a brilliant biochemist harbors a deadly secret. Somebody is going to die there, and it may be Frank Paine's soulmate. Or him.

Readers who liked The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo or the novels of Greg Iles will enjoy settling in with King of Paine for a sexy, thought-provoking ride.

"Larry Kahn has managed to create a cast of unforgettable characters, throwing in a bit of sex and misadventure, while infusing it with legal, moral, and ethical dilemmas. To say that I thought the King of Paine was brilliantly written would be an understatement. I sat down to read the book in the morning and was unable to put it down until I read the very last page!" -The Write To Make A Living

"The writing is perfect...Plus, that plot? Holy hell! I never could have seen the twists and turns coming."
-Owl Tell You About It

"...a roller coaster ride of who done it, oops, no they didn't. But it's not just that, the story makes you think and ask yourself some really important questions." -
Forbidden Reviews

"I have to admit I've heard the comparison between The Girl and the Dragon Tattoo and King of Paine and in my opinion, Kahn is better. I was never bored, in fact I hung onto every word in this story." -Boekie's Book Reviews

About the Author

Larry Kahn successfully negotiated the fast-paced world of domestic and international mergers and acquisitions for twenty years, first at a major New York law firm and then at an Atlanta Fortune 500 company. He penned The Jinx while on sabbatical in 1999 and is now devoted to writing fiction full time. Many of his more cynical legal clients and associates have accused him of writing fiction full time for many years. He resides in Atlanta with his family.

Larry developed a keen interest in social issues while attending Yale Law School, an idealistic spirit that continues to spice his novels. The vision of a colorblind America in his political thriller The Jinx led to endorsements by leaders of the ACLU, National Urban League and Artists Against Racism. And as the Baby Boomer generation scatters about the country, King of Paine envisions a renewed emphasis on family and tradition in which Americans create for their venerable elders, and ultimately themselves, a peaceful place to die.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC SUSPENSE NOVEL! December 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
Larry Kahn's King of Paine is a well written story full of action pack suspense. This is the kind of book where you can open it on ANY page and the story just pulls you in. It's that good! I can honestly say I was hooked from beginning to end. Although I lost a bit of sleep, I had a blast reading it! There's definitely some saucy scenes in this book, so I only recommend this for adults. I have to say one of my favorite things about Kahn's writing is every chapter has a fantastic opening. This is definitely part of the magic of this book. His characters, in particular Joylnn are well thought out and masterfully crafted. I have to admit i've heard the comparison between The Girl and the Dragon Tattoo and King of Paine and in my opinion, Kahn is better. I was never bored, in fact I hung onto every word in this story. Some of my favorite chapters were the chatroom scenes. I thought Kahn did a wonderful job building the story and propelling the plot forward with them. The chapters themselves were quick and left no room for "fluff," which I thought was great. Overall, I thought this book was fantastic! I hope to read more from Larry Kahn and I hope he continues writing suspense novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Amazing! December 4, 2011
Format:Paperback
Frank Paine was once an actor, in fact he was a sex symbol. But now he's traded in close-ups for a badge and a gun. The actor turned Federal Agent finds himself at the heart of an investigation that puts his past center stage. When the clues point back to a scorned love (who maybe the love of his life), Frank is forced to face the indiscretions of his past head on.

King of Paine is more than a suspense novel. It's a story that asks hard questions, it makes you think about who you are and what you stand for, and it's an all around great read! The cast of characters will keep you guessing, the thought provoking story line will have you wondering, and the fast pace will keep you turning the pages.

One of the best novels I've read this year, hands down!

5.0 out of 5 stars A daring Journey September 8, 2011
Format:Paperback
A fascinating journey into a modern day netherworld of the sexually adventurous and the famous, Larry Kahn tantalizes, taking us safely along for a thrilling and irresistible ride into a modern world where technology and taboo pleasures interact. Reading his crisp, clean prose, fast pacing, and superior character development, I at once felt smarter and a little bit naughtier, placing "King of Paine" in a category few authors have successfully dared. He poses serious questions about medical/pharmaceutical ethics and seems to pioneer obscure legalities surrounding the inevitable merge of culture and cyberspace. The intricate, riveting plot was drawn with an unimaginable expertise, each twist managing to satisfy my self-imposed standards for 'fictional' time well and truly spent. Kahn will become a fixture of my personal library and should continue to generate legions of guiltless fans.

This was a great mystery/thriller with an edge and with a lot of heart and philosophy. The characters are all well-defined and likeable but flawed as we all are and the mystery weaves throughout the story until revealed near the end. The mystery doesn't only involve a murderer but on a mysterious woman who operates on the edges of the mystery yet plays a big role in the conclusion.

I loved the main character's evolution and growth.

Well done story that will keep you riveted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Masterful suspense with a bit of naughty March 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This particular suspense novel does a masterful job of weaving seemingly unrelated stories together all the while making a reader question their stance on pharmaceutical business, society's treatment of the elderly, and the choice of assisted suicide in those with terminal illness. All of this may seem quite heavy but the author approaches these topics through the character of Frank Paine, former Hollywood star and private internet deviant. Frank is approachable and filled with guilt for a wrong committed against his former love interest and soul mate. The question of taking a stand for beliefs and justice reflects in Frank's personal life but also in the issues posed in the book. There is little time and no words wasted in this book and make it difficult to put down. The spice in the book is methodical and not overdone to the point of detracting from the intermingling story lines. A great book for any lover of suspenseful, well-written fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the read July 29, 2012
Format:Paperback
King of Paine

Larry Kahn takes his readers on a wild romp into the world of internet role-play and BDSM as his protagonist, FBI agent Frank Paine, searches for an internet stalker by using his own experiences with the BDSM community.

Actor turned FBI agent Frank Paine is part of the Cyber Squad looking to find and stop internet pedophiles, and keep them from luring young women into rendezvous to act out their BDSM fantasies. When the team receive an email pointing to an illicit liaison between an internet predator and an underage girl, Paine is sent reeling when it makes a reference to his online persona in a real-time sex play website; leaving him wondering if a scorned lover is responsible.

The cat and mouse game soon becomes a parallel investigation when the suspects and the targeted, some way or another are connected to a biochemist that happens to have dropped off the face of the earth. As Paine searches for the stalker, a reporter more interested in a bottle of scotch than a good story, gets a lead on a story that could bring him back into the limelight. Seems the reporter has stumbled upon the same biochemist and her exclusive community that appears to be an assisted suicide facility.

Kahn's second novel `King of Paine' is a well-written, fast paced thriller. It keeps the reader engaged in an often explicit ride through the world of BDSM so is definitely not a read for the prudish. In my opinion the story line of the missing elderly and possible assisted suicide facility, seems to take a back seat to the stalker case and could have been explored further.
