With no fan there is no noise.

If you google fanless 80 plus platinum power supply, this is pretty much the only result you get regardless of wattage, so I thought that was pretty cool.

This power supply is 80 plus platinum rated, that means very little energy is wasted in taking your a.c. power and converting it to d.c., which is useable by your computer. The benefits of this are two fold, less waste equals less heat and therefore it could be engineered without fans and produces no noise. The second benefit, is that over the life of your computer you will use less electricity and save some money.

Under a normal load, it only feels slighty warm to the touch, so it should last a long time. Additionally, this is covered by a five year warranty.

It seems that that it may now be crossfire certified, as the lable on the unit bares ATI's logo.

If you end up pulling more than 500 watts, its ok as this power supply is rated to 600 watts. However, in pushing it up to 600 watts, the powersupply is only 80 plus gold rated, so you lose some efficiency.

All told this is a quiet power supply that produces very clean power for your pc. All the parts on it were made by top manufacturers, there was no skimping on quality. The major hardware review sights have all commented on these facts.

Would by again!

The PSU does what it claims to do - it delivers 500 watts of clean high quality power at an extremely high efficiency, silently with no hum, buzz or other noise. Its modular nature allows you to keep the interior of your case nice and neat to maximize airflow. The only shortcomings, if you could call them that, are that the cables are not fully sleeved (the last part is exposed) and the connectors are not black but color coded, but these will only matter if you are displaying the inside of your case. Sure, the price is at a premium level, but this is a premium product and well worth the cost. Finally, if you need a little extra power, the PSU will deliver up to 600 watts but the efficiency will drop slightly from platinum to gold level.

I built a PC for my living room. Problem was it was so loud I hated having it on. I replaced the CPU fan with a Noctua cooling unit and that cut the noise down considerably, but the power supply fan was loud as well. Not extremely loud, but loud enough to annoy me. After some shopping around I decided on this fanless PSU.

This thing is fantastic! With no fan there is no noise. I was concerned about cooling and circulation so when I installed it I took care to organize the cabling to allow maximum airflow. This unit has modular cabling which helps eliminate cable clutter in your case. In addition, my case has a very open design - lots of venting - which is why it was so loud for me. Even after running for a week non stop this unit was cool to the touch.

There have been one or two occasions where the unit emitted an electric hum. Reviews for the unit has mentioned this would happen when it's pushed to full load. While I doubt I was hitting 500W at those moments, the noise was brief and not distracting enough to annoy.

My media PC is so quiet now the only way to tell it's running is by the bright blue LED lamp on the power button. I'd like to lose that, but then I'd never know when it's on or off!

I purchased the KingWin Stryker 500 Watt fanless power supply here on Amazon, Jan 19, 2013. It died this week, Aug 8, 2013 after very light usage as one of our home PCs. Replaced it with a Seasonic fanless.

Review for: Kingwin Stryker STR-500 Fanless Power Supply

OVERVIEW:
-----------

The Seasonic SS-400FL2 (the 400W version of the Seasonic we are comparing the Kingwin Stryker STR-500 to here) is silent, cool, and gets great reviews by the quiet/silent PC community. I highly recommend that little brother of the power supply being compared to here if you only need 1 PCI-E cable and under 400W.

The hope is that the SS-520FL2, with its multiple PCI-E cables, higher wattage, and higher efficiency would also be as silent as its little 400W brother. Combined with Seasonic's reputation in fanless power supplies this would have made the Seasonic an easy preference.

Unfortunately the 520W version of it, the SS-520FL2, that I ran had ELECTRICAL NOISE. Seasonic assured me and review sites that some original issues were resolved and the unit was silent, however this was not the case with my unit.

I probably should have exchanged it to see if its just a lemon. However the quiet/silent PC community reviewed the Kingwin Stryker STR-500 better and I chose to try a new brand. I swapped in a KINGWIN STRYKER STR-500 and it is SILENT.

So despite the technical leadership and great reputation of Seasonic all these years, I have to suggest the Kingwin STR-500 over the Seasonic SS-520FL2 if you are paying extra for silence.

Given Seasonic's great reputation, though, you might try the SS-520FL2 yourself and just be ready to exchange early enough for it to be easy to do so if needed.
